Marco Mendez was fatally shot while riding in a vehicle on the block where he lived in Little Village early Sunday.
Just before 5 a.m., the 23-year-old was in a vehicle in the 2500 block of South Whipple when someone in a black SUV opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical examiner’s office.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the face, police said. The driver took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:35 a.m., authorities said. Mendez lived in the same block where the shooting happened.
