Terry Bates killed, second man wounded in Englewood attack

An Englewood neighborhood shooting left Terry Bates Jr. dead and another man wounded Friday night on the South Side.

Bates, 26; and a 27-year-old man were outside in the 200 block of West Garfield about 8:45 p.m. when two gunmen walked up and opened fire before running away, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Both men were shot multiple times and were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where Bates was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 500 block of West Oak.

The condition of the 27-year-old, who suffered chest and leg wounds, was stabilized, police said.
