Jamie Varvaris was shot and killed last week on the block where she lived in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
Officers responding about 12:43 a.m. July 20 to reports of shots fired in the 3200 block of West 62nd Street found the 37-year-old on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the right buttock, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Varvaris, a mother of three, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:58 a.m., authorities said. She lived on the same block where she was shot.
An autopsy found she died of a gunshot wound to the back, and her death was ruled a homicide.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the children.
