Lee Martin was shot to death early Monday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
Officers responding about 2:25 a.m. to a call of a person shot in the 3200 block of West Walnut found him lying on the sidewalk, according to Chicago Police.
Martin, 43, had suffered gunshot wounds to the head and back, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:39 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 6500 block of South Loomis.
His body lay in the parkway between the sidewalk and street, covered by a sheet.
A woman who lives on the block said the shooting was just another reason for her to move out of Chicago, or at least to a new neighborhood.
She said she was a strict mother who kept her teenage children close and inside her apartment.
“I tell them I don’t like them to be on the porch,” she said, adding she wished to remain anonymous. “I tell them you see something going on, you get inside quick.”
