Kenneth Carrington died just minutes after a Greater Grand Crossing shooting that left 13-year-old girl injured

Kenneth Carrington was killed and a 13-year-old girl was wounded in a shooting Tuesday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

About 10 p.m., the 40-year-old Carrington and the girl were standing on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South University when shots rang out and both were struck, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Carrington was shot in the neck, and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:22 p.m., authorities said. He lived on the same block as the shooting.

The girl suffered a graze wound to the left leg and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, police said.

She appears to have been struck by a stray bullet, according to police.
