Malik Philpot was chased and fatally shot Thursday morning in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
Philpot, 20, was on the street about 10:35 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Washington when a group of people approached him and started shooting, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He ran away through a vacant lot, but the attackers followed him to the 4200 block of West West End Avenue, where they shot him multiple times in the abdomen, police said. The suspects then drove away, possibly in a van.
Philpot, who lived in the 1300 block of North Parkside, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m., authorities said.
