Martell Rhodes killed in drive-by shooting while walking in East Garfield Park

Martell Rhodes died about eight hours after he was shot Saturday afternoon in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The 30-year-old Rhodes was walking in the 3800 block of West Huron about 1:35 p.m. when someone fired shots from a dark vehicle, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Rhodes was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 4900 block of West Wrightwood.
