Steven Cowan dies 10 hours after being shot while sitting in a car in West Englewood

After being shot several times Friday morning while sitting in a car in the West Englewood neighborhood, Steven Cowan died Friday night at a hospital.

Cowan, 29, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle at 11:31 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Damen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office,

Someone walked out of a gangway, fired several shots at him, then ran away through the same gangway, according to police.

Cowan suffered gunshot wounds to the back, chest and both arms. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. Friday, authorities said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Cowan lived in the 8500 block of South Hermitage.
