Gilbert Leroy Wainwright III of Downers Grove found shot to death on Humboldt Park sidewalk

West suburban resident Gilbert Leroy Wainwright III was fatally shot early Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood while returning from a concert.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 12:45 a.m. found the 31-year-old Wainwright lying on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West Hirsch, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Wainwright had suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m., authorities said.

He lived in the 3900 block of Williams Street in Downers Grove.

Friends posted on Facebook that Wainwright was a “juggalo”—the term used for devoted fans of the musical group Insane Clown Posse and similar groups who perform music known as “horrorcore” or “underground rap.”

He was returning from a concert by the group Twiztid when he was killed.
