Father of three Kevin Wilson dies a month after being shot while walking to visit a friend in Chatham

A father of three who was expecting his fourth child, Kevin Wilson died Monday, more than a month after he was shot while walking to visit a friend in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

The 28-year-old Wilson was walking down the street at 12:53 a.m. Sept. 27 in the 300 block of East 81st Street across the street from Crerar Memorial Presbyterian Church. That’s when two male suspects came up behind him and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Wilson, of the 1400 block of East 79th Street, was hit twice in the back and once in the abdomen. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 1:01 p.m. Monday, authorities said.

An autopsy Tuesday found he died of complications from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Wilson, known as “Jay,” had three sons, and was expecting his fourth child, a girl, family members said on a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral expenses.
