The death of 3-year-old Tayveon J. Thomas on Monday in the West Pullman neighborhood has been ruled a homicide by child abuse.

Police were called at 8:23 a.m. Monday to an apartment in the 12200 block of South Green, where officers found the boy with “visible injuries,” according to News Affairs Officer Michelle Tannehill.

Tayveon was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Tuesday found he died of multiple injuries from child abuse, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area South detectives are investigating, but no one was in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.

The boy’s parents are being investigated for allegations of abuse, DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The agency has not had prior contact with the family, and it wasn’t clear if there were other children in the household, Resa said.
