A man who was fatally shot by a masked gunman Friday afternoon while walking in a park in the East Hyde Park neighborhood has been identified as 33-year-old Curtis Nowells.
At 2:50 p.m., the 33-year-old Nowells was walking in Cornell Park in the 5400 block of South Cornell. That’s when someone wearing a mask walked up from behind and opened fire before running to a nearby car and driving away, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Nowells was found unresponsive by officers and pronounced at the scene at 3:04 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 1900 block of East 73rd Place in South Shore.
