Devonta Spraggins shot to death while driving just a block from his home in Marquette Park

Devonta Spraggins was killed in a shooting Friday night while driving just a block from his home in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 20-year-old Spraggins was driving east on 72nd Street about 9:50 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

As the vehicle crossed Washtenaw Avenue, someone in a westbound Ford Explorer fired shots as they crossed paths, police said.

Spraggins, who lived just a block away in the 7200 block of South Talman, was shot in the chest, and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 10:22 p.m.
