Jesse C. Montes de Oca was fatally shot Sunday night on the block where he lived in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The 31-year-old was standing in a backyard about 11 p.m. in the 3500 block of West 38th Place, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A silver SUV drove past and someone inside fired shots.
Montes de Oca suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 p.m., authorities said. He lived on the same block where he was shot.
Area Central detectives were conducting a homicide investigation. No one was in custody as of Monday afternoon.
