30-year-old Ryan Thornton killed in drive-by shooting in Washington Park

Ryan D. Thornton was fatally shot Sunday afternoon in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

The 30-year-old was sitting in a vehicle at 12:33 p.m. in the 400 block of East Garfield, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Another vehicle pulled up alongside and someone inside fired shots, police said.

Thornton was shot in the left cheek, left hip and left side of his body; and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., authorities said.

The Kenwood Academy High School alumnus lived in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
