41-year-old Jerry Austin fatally shot in Fernwood drive-by

Jerry William Ausin was slain in a Fernwood neighborhood drive-by shooting late Thursday on the Far South Side, according to Chicago Police.

About 11:45 p.m., the 41-year-old Austin was standing on the sidewalk in the 10100 block of South LaSalle when someone in a vehicle shot him in the chest and hand, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead about two hours later at 1:57 a.m. Friday, police said.

Austin lived in the Far South Side Riverdale neighborhood.

No one was in custody as of early Monday.
