James King shot to death in street while going to visit family members in Englewood

James D. King lived on the Near West Side, but went to visit family early Wednesday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

He never made it. The 22-year-old was shot to death early Wednesday near his parked car in the 6600 block of SOuth Carpenter, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

King was found about 12:35 a.m. lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to authorities.

The Near West Side resident was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 1:59 a.m., authorities said.

No one was in custody as of Thursday morning.
