Naperville resident Romaine Elkins returns to Chicago, where he is fatally shot in Austin drive-by

Romaine L. Elkins, a former Chicago resident who had moved to west suburban Naperville, was fatally shot on Friday evening in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

About 5:15 p.m., the 18-year-old Elkins was standing in the 1500 block of North Linder, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office

A dark-colored SUV drove past and at least one person inside started firing in his direction, and Elkins was shot in the chest, according to authorities.
