Death of 3-year-old Jazebel Aleman in her home in Little Village ruled a homicide by assault

The death of 3-year-old Jazebel Aleman early Sunday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side has been ruled a homicide, and police say a person is in custody.

Officers responded about 1:10 a.m. to reports of the toddler not breathing in an apartment in the 2500 block of South Homan, according to Chicago Police.

The girl, identified as Jazebel, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:26 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Officials there spelled the girl’s name Jezipel

An autopsy Sunday found she died of multiple injuries from an assault, and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area Central detectives have one person in custody, and charges are pending, police said.
