Sammy McGowan was shot to death by two men who jumped out of a car Tuesday afternoon in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
McGowan, 28, was standing outside at 4:56 p.m. in the 6500 block of South University, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A white SUV pulled up and two armed men got out and fired shots, police said. The suspects then jumped back into the vehicle, which sped away northbound on University.
McGowan suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and another to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
He lived in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
