Cornell “Mellow” Verner was killed Saturday afternoon in an Englewood neighborhood shooting on the South Side.
The 24-year-old Verner was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle about 4:20 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Carpenter, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Someone walked up to the vehicle and fired shots, striking Verner multiple times in the face and torso, authorities said. The shooter then ran away.
Verner was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:32 p.m., authorities said. His home address was not known.
