Jerrell Perkins killed, woman wounded in drive-by shooting a block away from his home in West Pullman

Jerrell J. Perkins was killed and a woman was injured in a drive-by shooting early Saturday in the Far South Side West Pullman neighborhood.

The 26-year-old Perkins and a 45-year-old woman were standing on the street near a parked car about 4:30 a.m. in the 12200 block of South Green, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A black SUV pulled alongside them and someone inside started shooting.

Perkins was shot in the head and was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where he was pronounced dead at 4:46 a.m., authorities said.

The married father of two young sons lived about a block from where he was shot. He was known to friends as “Rell.”

The woman suffered gunshot wounds to the left arm and left leg. She was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition was stabilized, police said.
