Police: 1 dead, 1 hurt in Austin shooting

One man was killed and another injured in a shooting in the Austin neighborhood late Saturday, police said.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. in the 0 to 100 block of South Parkside Avenue, wounding two men in their late teens or early 20s, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

One man was unresponsive at the scene, while the other is in “stable” condition waiting to be taken to an area hospital, Gaines said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.
Area North detectives are investigating.

Man shot to death in vehicle on South Side

A man who was shot to death while driving was found slumped over in the driver’s seat of a car after striking a planter box in the Washington Heights neighborhood late Thursday.

Police were called to the 9100 block of South Justine Street on the South Side after receiving reports of a man shot about 11:40 p.m., said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

There they found the man unresponsive behind the wheel after he was shot several times, authorities said. Read more

Man fatally shot in West Pullman

A 29-year-old man was shot to death while riding a bike Thursday night near his West Pullman neighborhood home.

Dequantay Bingmon was on the bike on the Far South Side at 20 E. 120th Place about 8:45 p.m. when a shooter walked up and opened fire, authorities said.

Bingmon, of the 1200 block of South Michigan Avenue, was shot in the chest and back, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. He was dead at the scene.

Nobody was in custody as Area South detectives investigated.

Man killed in South Shore drive-by shooting

A man was killed Tuesday morning in a drive-by shooting in the South Shore neighborhood.

A 34-year-old man was in a parking lot near East 74th Street and South Colfax Avenue with another person at 9:38 a.m. when a light-colored SUV drove by and a person inside fired shots, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

The victim was shot in the back and left leg, and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, Mirabelli said.

The victim had gang affiliations, Mirabelli said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death, but could not immediately provide further details.

Area Central detectives are investigating.

Two men shot, one killed, in Bronzeville

One man was killed and another injured in a shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood Sunday evening.
The shooting occurred at 6:15 p.m. in the 2900 block of South State Street, police said.
Ralph NcNeal, 54, of the 5200 block of South Indiana Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he died at 7:10 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Another man, 26, was also taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Area Central detectives are investigating.

Teen dies following South Side shooting

A man died after he was shot Friday night during an argument in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
The 18-year-old was shot while arguing with another male about 8:10 p.m. in the 500 block of East 68th Street, police said.
Kenneth Barbour, of the 1600 block of East 85th Street, died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital at 11:32 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
No one is in custody, and Area South detectives are investigating.

One man was killed and another wounded in an Englewood neighborhood shooting early Wednesday, police said.
The men were in the 5800 block of South Sangamon Street when they were shot about 1:30 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.
Jason Scott, 32, of the 5600 block of South May Street, was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was dead on the scene, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The other wounded man, who is 28, was shot in the backside. He was listed in “stable” condition at an area hospital, police said.
No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated.

Man stabbed to death in Lawndale domestic dispute

One person is in custody after allegedly stabbing a man to death during a “domestic dispute” at a Lawndale neighborhood home early Wednesday, according to authorities.

Ricky Tolbert, 28, was stabbed to death at his West Side home in the 3300 block of West Douglas Boulevard about 12:40 a.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:51 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police did not release details about the person in custody or the nature of the dispute.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday night, police said.
