Tra’don Sanders, 19, was shot Sunday afternoon in the 5000 block of South Winchester at 2:10 p.m. when someone walked up and fired multiple times, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Sanders, who lived nearby, was shot in the neck and head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead within an hour, authorities said.

    A man was shot to death Saturday afternoon in the Northwest Side Cragin neighborhood. Isiah Hope High, 20, was riding a bicycle at 1:17 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Long when someone in a minivan fired shots, striking him in the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:02 p.m., authorities said. He lived a block from where he was shot. Area North detectives were investigating.Read more

WEEK IN REVIEW: 11 killed the week of Thanksgiving

At least 11 people were killed in Chicago the week of Thanksgiving, from November 20-26, including a 61-year-old man who was mutilated by his son, prosecutors said.

On Saturday night at 9 p.m., officers responding to a well-being check at a home in the 11500 block of South Bishop found Carl Edmondson, 61, in the basement with “severe blunt trauma to the head” and lacerations to his groin, according to Chicago Police.

He was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:44 p.m.

The victim’s 26-year-old son, Carlton Edmondson, was arrested and charged with the murder, prosecutors said. The son had been barred from visiting his father and had been served an order of protection taken out by his father just days before the killing.

After a raucous bond hearing, in which the younger Edmondson muttered and ranted, a judge ordered him held without bail.

  • About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, one man was killed and another was critically wounded in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The men were standing on a street corner in the 2600 block of West 63rd when three males walked up and fired shots in their direction, according to Chicago Police. Marquis Banks, 28, of the same neighborhood, was shot in the chest and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A 27-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was also taken to Christ, where he was listed in critical condition.Read more

WEEK IN REVIEW: 10 more killed as Chicago passes 600 homicides this year

At least 10 people were killed in Chicago the week of November 13-19, tipping the city’s homicide total past the 600 mark for the year.

The victims’ ages spanned from a 15 to 53, including two boys killed in the entrance of a building in Austin, and a man who died from assault at his home in West Rogers Park.

That 600th homicide happened Tuesday afternoon in a drive-by shooting that wounded two and killed one in the Austin neighborhood.

Trevonte T. Howard, 25, was was shot multiple times in the head from a shooter in a light-colored vehicle in the 500 block of South Lockwood, Police said.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene, about a mile from where he lived, at 4:41 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Other homicides last week included:

  • A man was shot dead Monday evening in the Uptown neighborhood on the North side. At 6:03 p.m., a teenage boy between 15 and 17 fired shots at DeShawn Johnson in the 1200 block of West Leland and then ran away, police said. Johnson, 18, was fatally shot in the chest and was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.

WEEK IN REVIEW: Five killed in shootings, including two 29-year-olds in Brighton Park

At least 5 people were killed by violence in Chicago the week of Nov. 6-12, including two 29-years-old shot together in the Brighton Park neighborhood and pronounced dead at the scene.

The two men Alejandro Arellano and Angel Rosario, were killed early Sunday as they were walking in the 2400 block of West 47th Place at about 1:55 a.m. An eastbound gray Toyota Corolla pulled up and a male shooter got out and opened fire, police said.

The shooter then got back inside the vehicle, which drove off heading toward Western. One man was shot in the chest and the other was shot in the head and neck, police said.  The shooting was believed to be gang-related, police said.

Other homicides last week included:

  • A downstate man was found shot to death inside a home Wednesday afternoon in the West Side Austin neighborhood. Ramon X. Williams, 37, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 900 block of North LeClaire at 1:17 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Williams, a Kankakee resident, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:33 p.m., authorities said. An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

At least thirteen people died from violence in Chicago during the week of October 30 through November 5, six over the weekend alone, including a man shot inside a Starbucks in the Uptown neighborhood.

In a Starbucks in the Uptown neighborhood, a man was killed and two other people were wounded, including a 12-year-old boy, in a shooting Thursday night. The incident began with a drug deal nearby, according to Town Hall District Cmdr. Marc Buslik. Just after 8 p.m., a person in a ski mask chased 28-year-old Sauvignon Watkins into the Starbucks at 4753 N. Broadway and shot him, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Watkins, who lived in the Avalon Park neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 12-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the groin and was being treated at Lurie Children’s Hospital, where he was in good condition, police said. A 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition. No one was in custody as Area North detectives investigated.

Other homicides last week included:

  • A 38-year-old man was killed in a shooting Sunday evening in the South Chicago neighborhood. Paris Thompson was sitting outside about 7:20 p.m. in the 7900 block of South East End Avenue when another male walked up and fired shots, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Thompson, who lived a few blocks away, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, back and neck, authorities said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced about 45 minutes later.Read more

WEEK IN REVIEW: 13 killed in violence, including two accidental shootings

At least 13 people died from violence the week of October 23-29 in Chicago. The victims included 10 people who where fatally shot, including two who police said were killed in “accidental” shootings.

The homicides considered accidental by police were the shootings of a 16-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman, police said.

The girl, identified as Eshani Mayfield, died less than 30 minutes after an acquaintance was handling a gun and it accidentally discharged, stirking Mayfield in the eye Sunday evening in Woodlawn, police said.

Three people have been charged in connection with the shooting that killed the Amundsen High School cheerleader. Joshua Baker, 19, who lives on the same block, was charged with one felony count of obstruction of justice for destroying evidence from the shooting, according to Chicago Police. Baker was released on his own recognizance.

A 16-year-old girl, whose identity was not released, was charged as a juvenile with involuntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. SHe is the one who was allegedly holding the gun when it went off. A 17-year-old boy was charged as a juvenile with obstructing justice and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to prosecutors. Both teens were ordered held in custody until their next hearing Dec. 1, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

A 21-year-old woman also died of an accidental gunshot in the Portage Park neighborhood, police said.

About 10 p.m. Saturday night, 21-year-old Nadia Manjarrez and a 37-year-old man were inside a home in the 4800 block of West Hutchinson when the gun went off, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Manjarrez, who lived in the neighborhood, was shot in the head and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Manjarrez was a 2014 graduate of Round Lake High School. An autopsy did not rule on her cause and manner of death, with results pending further investigation, the medical examiner’s office said.

The gun was recovered and the man, whom friends said was Manjarrez’ boyfriend, was initially detained for questioning, police said. He was later released without charges as Area North detectives continue to investigate.

Other homicides last week included:

  • Two men were shot to death Friday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. Just after 10 a.m., the victims were in a vehicle in the 3400 block of West Augusta, according to police. A person walked up to the vehicle and engaged them in conversation, then started firing shots. Kenta Ali Holifield, 39, was shot multiple times in the chest and head, and was found inside the vehicle, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Holifield, an Indianapolis resident, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Lonnie Hartman, 31, was shot multiple times and was found in the street, police said. Hartman, a West Side Austin neighborhood resident, was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Autopsies found both men died of multiple gunshot wounds.

At least 10 people were killed in Chicago during the week of Oct. 16-22, including eight by gunfire, one by stabbing, and another by vehicular homicide.

A man has been charged with murder a domestic-related stabbing incident that left a woman dead and two men wounded Saturday night in the Marquette Park neighborhood. Elizabeth Kennedy, 36, was stabbed in the chest at 5:42 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Marquette, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Prosecutors claim Eddie Crowder fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend in front of her 13-year-old daughter; wounded a second man, and slashed the teen’s 75-year-old grandfather during a family argument that exploded into violence in Marquette Park. Kennedy was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., authorities said. The two other men sufered non-life-threatening injuries.

Kennedy lived on the same block, a generally quiet area on the Southwest Side. Crowder was ordered held without bond.

In other homicides last week:

  • A man was found dead Sunday evening with gunshot wounds to his head and back in the West Side Austin neighborhood, and another man has been charged with his murder. Lonnell Holmes, 24, was found about 8:34 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Lavergne, police said. He was unresponsive and had multiple gunshot wounds to the head and back. Terrance Johnson, 40, was ordered held without bond for shooting Holmes twice in the head and once in the lower back, after Holmes mocked Johnson about Johnson’s son’s death, Assistant State’s Attorney Guy Lisuzzo said during a bond hearing. The two men knew each other, but hadn’t seen each other in years before their fateful encounter, Lisuzzo said.

At least 16 people were killed during the week of October 9-15 in Chicago, including two school employees who died in separate incidents in the Far South Side Rosemoor and Far North Side Rogers Park neighborhoods.

Simone D. McKay, 26, was shot to death early Sunday morning on her porch in the 9600 block of South Forest in the Rosemoor neighborhood, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at 12:13 a.m., authorities said.

McKay was a part-time employee of the CPS Office of Early Education and was a senior biology major at Chicago State University. She was also a single mother of two young children.

Another shooting victim, Cynthia Trevillion, 64, was caught in gang crossfire in the 6900 block of North Glenwood in the Rogers Park neighborhood at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

Trevellion and her husband were walking to meet friends for dinner when she was struck in the head and neck. She was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she died at 7:18 p.m.

Tevellion was a math teacher at the Chicago Waldorf School, where she had taught for the last 14 years.

Other homicides last week included:

  • A 26-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday afternoon in the South Side Gresham neighborhood. Reno D. Wooldridge suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and arm at 12:33 p.m. in the 8300 block of South Justine, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Wooldridge was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died half an hour later. He lived on same block as the shooting.

The one-month-old baby, identified as Toriella Turpin, was found unresponsive Saturday morning by police in the South Shore neighborhood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Officers responded about 6 a.m. to the 6700 block of South East End for an unresponsive infant. Toriella was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she died at 6:42 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Sunday found the girl died of blunt force injuries of the head from an assault, and the death was ruled a homicide.

The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services said it was investigating the girl’s death, along with police.

In other homicides last week:

  • A 30-year-old man was shot to death Sunday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood. Oscar Carter was standing outside of a vehicle at 7:26 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Mason when a vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He was struck multiple times in the chest, and the vehicle drove off after the shooting, authorities said. Carter, of the West Garfield Park neighborhood, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died 30 minutes later.

WEEK IN REVIEW: 17 more killed, including baby who died 4 days after her pregnant mother was fatally shot

At least 17 people were killed in violence the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1., with seven people killed on Friday alone, and a triple homicide that included a pregnant woman and her unborn daughter.

The baby girl died Monday, four days after being delivered by her mother, Charnella Lemon, 20, who was fatally shot Friday morning in the Far South Side Fernwood neighborhood, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was inside a parked car with 33-year-old Terrence Carter, who was also killed when someone approached the car on foot and opened fire at 7:39 a.m. in a vacant lot in the 400 block of West 102nd Place, police said.

Carter was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Lemon suffered three gunshot wounds to the chest and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 8:51 a.m.

Baby Janae Lemon was delivered at Christ and was listed in critical condition until she died Monday at 2:28 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy showed that a bullet went through her mother’s abdomen and struck the then-unborn child in the torso.

In other homicides last week:

  • A man was illed in a South Shore neighborhood shooting Sunday morning that also left a woman injured. The pair were standing on a sidewalk at 10:27 a.m. in the 2600 block of East 75th Street when another man walked up, pulled out a handgun and fired shots, according to police. Tommie L. Jones, 28, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and back, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He lived about 2 miles away in Greater Grand Crossing. The 26-year-old woman was shot in the lower back, and was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
