David Martinez killed, 16-year-old boy wounded in Little Village shooting

Nineteen-year-old David Martinez was killed and a 16-year-old boy wounded in a shooting Monday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The two were in the 3000 block of South Kedvale Avenue at 5:01 p.m. when someone walked up, pulled a gun and fired shots, Chicago Police said.

Martinez was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:14 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2700 block of South Komensky.

The 16-year-old was shot in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Martinez was one of five men who were fatally shot in Chicago on Monday.

Trevon Stiger dies hours after being shot along a CPS Safe Passage Route in West Englewood

Trevon Stiger was killed and another man wounded Monday morning in a shooting along a CPS Safe Passage Route in the West Englewood neighborhood, the first of five fatal shootings in the city Monday.

Stiger, 20; and an 18-year-old man were walking in the 2000 block of West Marquette at 9:18 a.m. when a gunman walked up and fired shots, then ran away, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Chicago Police.

Stiger, of the 2100 block of West 68th Place, was shot in the abdomen and pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 2:57 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The 18-year-old was shot in the face and was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The shooting happened along Harper High School’s Safe Passage Route.

Prior to the incident, no one had been shot in Chicago since 12:35 a.m. Sunday. But it was the first of at least 16 shootings Monday, five of which were fatal.

19-year-old Davon Horace found with fatal gunshot wounds in Englewood

Davon Horace was shot and killed Monday morning in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, one of five people to die in gunfire on Monday in Chicago.

The 19-year-old was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds in the 7200 block of South May at 11:24 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Horace, of the 6700 block of South Throop, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:13 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

At least eight people were killed by gunfire in Chicago last week, and a ninth man was stabbed to death as the violent start to 2016 continued in spite of some frigid temperatures.

Alphonzo Guinyard, 26, man was stabbed to death during an argument Sunday morning in East Garfield Park, Chicago Police said. Two men were arguing in the 3400 block of West Polk when it escalated into a fight about 9:20 a.m. The older man, 32, then stabbed the Guinyard in the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the argument was domestic-related, but the exact relationship between the men was not immediately known. The suspect was taken into custody and charges are pending, police said.

One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting Saturday night in Roseland. The men, ages 21 and 26, were sitting in a car parked in the 9600 block of South Calumet about 10:45 p.m. when a gunman got out of a dark-colored car, walked up and started shooting, according to police. A friend drove them to Roseland Community Hospital.

Martell Howard of Westchester fatally shot, second man wounded in West Garfield Park attack

Martell Howard of west suburban Westchester was killed and another man wounded in a shooting Thursday evening in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The men, ages 21 and 23, were both shot at 7:19 p.m. in the 4600 block of West Huron, according to Chicago Police.

The older man, identified as Howard, was shot in the abdomen, and was dropped off at Stroger Hospital, where he died at 8:08 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Howard lived in the 1500 block of South Manchester Avenue in Westchester. An autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound to the torso and ruled his death a homicide.

The younger man was shot in both legs and was also driven to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized.

Orlando McArther dies about 14 hours after being wounded in Roseland shooting

Orlando McArther was killed and another man wounded in a shooting Saturday night in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The men, ages 21 and 26, were sitting in a car parked in the 9600 block of South Calumet about 10:45 p.m. when a gunman got out of a dark-colored car, walked up and started shooting, according to Chicago Police. A friend drove them to Roseland Community Hospital.

The older man, identified as as McArther, was shot in the back of the head and the left arm, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

McArther, of the 9600 block of South Forest, was then taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The younger man was shot in the buttocks and his condition was stabilized at Roseland, police said.

Derrius Lares found fatally shot in backyard of a home in Homan Square

Derrius Lares was found shot to death Saturday morning in the backyard of a home in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side.

Lares, 22, was found about 7 a.m. in a backyard in the 3300 block of West Polk with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Lares, of the 6600 block of South Hoyne Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:10 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

23-year-old charged with fatal shooting of Quintae Little in Garfield Ridge

A 23-year-old man has been charged with the fatal shooting of Quintae Little last week in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Dannee Brewer, 23, was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting that left the 34-year-old dead Jan. 16, Chicago Police announced Saturday.

Little was shot in the right side of his torso at 11:48 a.m. in a parking lot in the 4500 block of South Cicero Avenue, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m.

Courtney Taylor was fatally shot during a fight in the lobby of a hotel near McCormick Place early Saturday, according to Chicago Police.

About 2:20 a.m., the 25-year-old was among several people fighting in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place at 2233 S. King Drive, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

During the fight, someone pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

Taylor, of the 6800 block of South Paulina Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy Saturday found that he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

Deante Dale fatally shot in car on block where he lived in North Austin

A man shot to death in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side Thursday night has been identified.

Deante Dale, 20, was found unresponsive in the front seat of a light blue sedan parked in the 1700 block of North Menard about 10:12 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He had been shot in the left shoulder.

Dale, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.
