16-year-old Andrew Zamora charged with fatal shooting of Abel Ruvalcaba in Little Village

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the fatal shooting of Abel Ruvalcaba, who was out driving with friends early Monday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Andrew Zamora shot the 21-year-old Ruvalcaba without “provocation” as he sat in the front seat passenger side of a four-door car around 4:30 a.m. Monday, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Przekota said in court.

As the car Ruvalcaba was in came to the intersection of 24th and Sawyer, Zamora approached the vehicle, Przekota said.

Ruvalcaba, through his open window, asked Zamora where he was from.

Right after the question was asked, Zamora “immediately” raised his arm and fired at Ruvalcaba, Przekota said.

That’s Father Michael Pfleger’s response to rapper Chief Keef’s plan to hold a concert in memory of a rapper friend slain in gun violence over the weekend, as well as a toddler who died in the aftermath.

Earlier Monday, Pfleger had an even more blunt message for the rapper on his Facebook page: “SHUT UP!!!!!”

“Chief Keef has announced that he will hold a benefit concert to raise funds for his friend and the Baby who were killed this past weekend….REALLY…Chief Keef is one of the reasons we have all this violence…he has been one of the encourager’s of the Violence,” wrote the outspoken pastor who has taken to the pulpit and the streets to fight gun violence.

Eric Loyd killed, two other men injured in shooting after altercation in Austin

A man killed in a shooting that left two other people injured early Saturday in the West Side Austin neighborhood has been identified as 26-year-old Eric Loyd.

The three men—Loyd, a 24-year-old and a 27-year-old—were standing outside about 3:15 a.m. in the 200 block of South Laramie when they got into an altercation and shots were fired, police said.

Loyd, of the 1400 block of South Avers, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The 27-year-old suffered gunshot wounds to both legs and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. The youngest man was shot in the leg and also taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.

Abel Ruvalcaba fatally shot while riding in vehicle in Little Village

Abel Ruvalcaba was shot to death early Monday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 4:30 a.m., the 21-year-old Ruvalcaba was a passenger in a vehicle in the 2400 block of South Sawyer when someone fired shots from the sidewalk, striking him in the chest, police said.

Ruvalcaba, of the 2200 block of South Spaulding, later died at Mount Sinai Hospital, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

At least 12 people were killed in the wake of Chicago violence last week, including a 13-week-old boy run down by a vehicle police say was fleeing the scene of an earlier fatal shooting on the South Side.

On Saturday, 13-month-old Dillan Harris was run down by a vehicle fleeing a deadly gang shooting in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

Dillan, who was in a stroller, was with his mother and two older sisters waiting for a bus to go to 63rd Street Beach when the westbound car, which Chicago Police said was fleeing a fatal shooting in the 7700 block of South Kingston, swerved and hit the child.

The mother, who declined to giver her name, said she tried to push all of her kids out of the way but didn’t have enough time to get the 13-month-old clear of the danger.

Rapper Chief Keef will appear via hologram in Chicago on Friday to perform a free concert after hearing about a Saturday shooting and car chase that led to the deaths of his friend Marvin Carr and 13-month-old boy Dillan Harris on the South Side.

A time and location for the concert are still not set, but Keef’s hologram will appear in a Chicago location as he performs on a Beverly Hills stage owned by Hologram USA, according to a statement from Owen Phillips, spokesman for FilmOn Networks. The rapper recently signed a two-album deal with FilmOn, an online television streaming company.

“He loves his hometown Chicago but cannot attend due to outstanding warrants his legal team is addressing,” according to the statement.

The statement said Keef was “moved by the news” of the shooting death of Carr, known as rapper Capo, and 13-month-old Dillan, who was fatally struck by a car being chased by police after the incident.

Keith Dixon fatally on same block of Grand Crossing as fatal police shooting a day earlier

Keith C. Dixon was shot to death late Friday in the same block of Grand Crossing on the South Side where another man was fatally shot by a police the day before.

The shooting happened around 11:10 p.m. Friday, police said.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 7500 block of South Langley found the 25-year-old on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Dixon was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the 600 block of East 76th Street.

Less than 24 hours earlier, police shot and killed a 27-year-old man who they say pointed a gun at them on the same block. It was one of two police-involved shootings from late Thursday to Friday afternoon.

Antoine Watkins charged with murder for running down 1-year-old Dillan Harris

A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder after 13-month-old Dillan Harris was run down by a vehicle fleeing a deadly gang shooting Saturday afternoon in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

Antoine Watkins faces one count of murder with a strong probability of death or injury, a felony, according to Chicago Police.

Watkins, of the 8100 block of South Bennett, was arrested in connection with Dillan’s death after police saw him driving a car matching the description of the vehicle that fatally struck the boy about 1:45 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Dillan’s mother had been standing on the sidewalk, waiting at a bus stop at 63rd and Ellis with her three kids—Dillan, who was in a stroller, and his two older sisters. On a warm day, they were headed for a family outing at 63rd Street Beach.

Pierre Dobyne killed in drive-by shooting in South Chicago

Pierre M. Dobyne man was killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The 19-year-old was standing in the 8300 block of South Baker at 3:30 p.m. when a minivan approached, and someone got out and fired shots, police said. The shooter then got back in the van, which drove off in an unknown direction.

Dobyne, of the 3300 block of South Archer, was shot in the chest and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

Timothy Williams found shot to death in East Garfield Park

Timothy T. Williams was shot to death last week in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

About 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, officers found the 25-year-old Williams on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds in the 3200 block of West Huron, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Williams, of the 6100 block of North Seeley, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:09 a.m., authorities said.

Police did not have an update on the homicide investigation as of Sunday afternoon.
