Man killed on Southwest Side

A man shot in the head Sunday afternoon in South Lawndale neighborhood died Monday afternoon.

The man was walking in the 3000 block of South Kedvale Avenue when a gunman emerged from a gangway, yelled gang slogans and fired multiple shots, police said.

One of the shots struck 31-year-old Salvador Ponce in the head, authorities said. He was initially hospitalized in critical condition.

Ponce, 2700 block of South Komensky Avenue, was declared dead at 1:45 p.m. Monday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
