1 dead, 1 wounded in South Chicago shooting

A 22-year-old man was killed and another was wounded in a Thursday afternoon shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood.

D’Angello Simmons, of the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue, died from a gunshot wound to the chest just after 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police said Simmons and an 18-year-old man were walking in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue when an approaching gunman opened fire about 6:10 p.m.

Simmons was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He died less than an hour after he was shot.

The 18-year-old man was taken to South Shore Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the ankle, police said.
