Michael Tingling dies after fight in Rogers Park

The death of Michael Tingling, 59, who died from a heart condition after getting into a fight with another man Wednesday in Rogers Park, has been ruled a homicide.

Tingling got into an argument with another man and was battered about 2 p.m. in the 7100 block of North Clark Street, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Tingling, of the 7100 block of North Ridge Avenue, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was pronounced dead at 2:46 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Thursday found Tingling died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease, with stress from the altercation listed as a secondary factor, according to the medical examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide.

Area North detectives are questioning a 58-year-old man in connection with Tingling’s death, but no charges had been filed as of Thursday afternoon, police said.
