A restaurant security guard fatally shot a man police said threatened the guard with a knife early Sunday in the Albany Park neighborhood.
The 47-year-old security guard told an intoxicated Juan Carlos Villalobos Avila to leave the restaurant in the 4500 block of North Kedzie Avenue just before 4 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Avilia, 36, returned with a knife and attacked the security guard, who drew his weapon and fired shots, authorities said.
Avilia, of an unidentified home address, was struck and died at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A Monday autopsy determined he died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the death was ruled a homicide.
The security guard was not hurt, and no charges are pending against him, police said.
