Wesley Kelly dies one day after being shot in head in Greater Grand Crossing

Wesley Kelly died Friday, one day after the 25-year-old was shot while riding in a vehicle in Greater Grand Crossing.

Kelly was the backseat passenger in a vehicle heading west on 67th Street near Michigan Avenue at 9:10 p.m. Thursday when someone walked up and fired shots at the vehicle, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Kelly, of the 6200 block of South Evans, was shot in the head, and was driven to St. Bernard Hospital, authorities said. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 6:06 p.m. Friday.

An autopsy Tuesday showed he died of a gunshot wound to the head, the medical examiner’s office said.
