Man killed in East Garfield Park shooting identified as 34-year-old Calvin McConnell


A man killed in a shooting that left another man wounded early Saturday in East Garfield Park has been identified as Calvin McConnell.

The victims, ages 34 and 28, were parked in a vehicle in the 2900 block of West Lexington about 4:10 a.m. when a black vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired at them, police said.

The older man, identified as McConnell, was shot in the chest and shoulder, and was dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2600 block of West Lexington.

The 28-year-old was shot in the neck, chest and shoulder, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
