A man has been charged with reckless homicide after a crash that left 62-year-old Renee D. Showers dead Thursday morning in the Lawndale neighborhood.

Showers was driving just before 6 a.m. in the 700 block of South Kostner when another vehicle collided with hers, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:39 a.m., authorities said. She lived in the 800 block of South Kilbourn.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle, 28-year-old Heriberto Aguirre, ran away from the crash. Officers took him into custody later that day.
