Grayson Langdon, son of pastor aiming to stop the violence in Chicago, found with fatal gunshot wound in South Shore

A man shot to death in the South Shore neighborhood Sunday night has been identified as Grayson Langdon, son of the Far South Side pastor who founded the Thou Shalt Not Murder campaign.

About 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue and found the 25-year-old unresponsive on the ground, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Langdon had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 7600 block of South Cregier.

The victim’s father is the Rev. Dennis C. Landgon of Morgan Park United Methodist Church. He was one of the founders of the Thou Shalt Not Murder campaign, which kicked off with a relatively successful campaign calling for no murders on Easter last March.

The event was called a success as no one was murdered in Chicago on Easter Sunday.

At the time, Langdon told Homicide Watch Chicago: “We’re looking to the people of Chicago to take responsibility for themselves and the people living in their communities, and say it’s unacceptable for this type of behavior to keep happening. Even if it’s only for a day, it will prove we have the ability to say no to violence in our city.”
