Antonio ‘Tone’ Barrett shot to death while walking near his home in South Shore

Antonio “Tone” Barrett was shot to death in the South Shore neighborhood Thursday evening, only a few blocks from where he lived on the South Side.

The 30-year-old Barrett was walking at 68th and Stony Island about 4:45 p.m., Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

My son’s life was ended due to gun violence in the city of Chicago,” his father, Michael Adams, wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help pay for funeral expenses.

My son was enjoying the weather in his neighborhood when someone pulled up and shot him in the face and head,” he wrote.

Police said someone walked up to Barrett, pulled out a gun and fired, striking him in the head.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 6:53 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area central detectives are investigating.

Barrett was the father of a five-year-old son.
