Jonathan Jimenez dies after drive-by shooting in Brighton Park

Jonathan Jimenez was killed in a Brighton Park neighborhood shooting Tuesday night on the Southwest Side.

Jimenez, 25, was getting out of a vehicle in the 4600 block of South Talman about 8:20 p.m. when someone in a passing vehicle shot him in the abdomen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Jimenez, of the 1900 block of West Cullerton, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Jose Rodriguez killed, second man wounded in drive-by shooting in Pilsen

A Pilsen neighborhood drive-by shooting Monday night left Jose Rodriguez dead and another man wounded.

The 33-year-old Rodriguez was standing outside with a 36-year-old man in the 1700 block of South Leavitt about 7:30 p.m. when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Both were taken to Stroger Hospital. Rodriguez, shot in the chest and buttocks, was pronounced dead at 1:52 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said. He lived in the 2100 block of West 18th Street.

The older man was shot in the buttocks and his condition had stabilized.

Donzell Davis dies after being shot on New Year’s Day in Back of the Yards

A man who died after he was shot on New Year’s Day in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side has been identified as 36-year-old Donzell M. Davis.

Davis was shot in the chest in the 1900 block of West Garfield at 6:40 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was driven to 55th Street and Artesian before he was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later, according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 9700 block of South Indiana.

An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the back, and his death was ruled a homicide.

rockwell-CST-032812-3.JPGThe first homicide of 2016 in Chicago happened in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood about 2:20 a.m. on New Years Day, claiming the life of a 24-year-old man, one of at least five people to die in gun violence last week.

In that first reported homicide of the year, Deandre Holiday, 24, got into a fight with someone in the 4600 block of South St. Lawrence and that person pulled a gun and fired shots at 2:20 a.m. Friday, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The shooter then ran away.

Holiday, of the 5100 block of South Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.

A second person, a 38-year-old man, was also struck by the gunfire and later showed up at Provident Hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said. He was listed in good condition.

A 16-year-old boy died about seven hours after he was shot Saturday in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.

Chicago Police have released surveillance photos and are asking for the public’s help identifying a “person of interest” in a September shooting in the Morgan Park neighborhood that took the life of Timothy D. Lawrence.

About 12:40 a.m. Sept. 14, firefighters responded to a report of an explosion and fire at a single-story home in the 10800 block of South Morgan Street.

A 48-year-old man, identified as Lawrence, was found unresponsive at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide.

16-year-old Antwan McBee dies hours after being shot in car in Woodlawn

Sixteen-year-old Antwan McBee died seven hours after he was shot Saturday in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.

At 4:47 p.m., the boy was in a car in the 6300 block of South Stony Island Avenue when another car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to the Chicago Police and Cook County medical examiner’s office.

McBee, of the 4800 block of South Prairie Avenue, was shot in the head and shoulder, and took himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died at midnight Saturday, authorities said.

Roderick Snowden fatally shot in vehicle in Englewood

Roderick Snowden was shot to death Friday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

About 9:40 p.m., the 32-year-old Snowden was sitting in a vehicle parked in the 6100 block of South Sangamon when a dark-colored car pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Snowden, who lived in the 1200 block of Wadsworth Avenue in North Chicago, was shot repeatedly and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

Man pleads guilty, gets community service for hit-and-run crash that killed Terrell Walker in West Englewood

A 20-year-old Chicago man charged with a fatal hit-and-run crash in West Englewood in June that left Terrell Walker dead has been sentenced to community service.

Rashaad H. Jackson pleaded guilty Wednesday to failure to report an accident involving death, according to Cook County court records.

Judge Vincent Gaughn sentenced Jackson to 180 days in Cook County jail, which Jackson has already served, according to court records. He was also sentenced to 480 hours of community service and two years of probation.

Walker, 46, was crossing the street in the 6500 block of South Laflin when he was struck by a black car traveling south about 9:30 p.m. June 2, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Three hours before the end of the year, interim Chicago Police Supt. John Escalante announced Thursday night that Chicago had seen a “significant” increase in murders and shootings over the previous year.

In 2015, there were over 50 more murders than in 2014, he said.

Unofficial totals compiled by the Chicago Sun-Times Wire showed at least 477 people were homicide victims in the city in 2015. Nine others were fatally shot by police; and seven died in traffic crashes with criminal charges filed.

The last two months of the year were particularly difficult between the police department and the community, he said, noting the release of the police dashcam video of the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald by Officer Jason Van Dyke.
