24-year-old Terbord Williams killed in drive-by shooting in Wrightwood

Terbord WIlliams was killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday night in the Wrightwood neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 24-year-old Williams was standing on the sidewalk about 7:45 p.m. when someone in a vehicle fired shots at him in the 2600 block of West 83rd Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Williams, who lived two blocks away, was shot in his upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene at 8:10 p.m., authorities said.

No one was in custody.

People in passing car find Vincent Hubbard with fatal gunshot wounds in Ferwood

People in a passing vehicle found Vincent Hubbard shot to death early Friday in the Fernwood neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The witnesses were driving when they found the 27-year-old Hubbard lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest about 12:15 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Parnell, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

They drove Hubbard, who lived in the Longwood Manor neighborhood, to Roseland Community Hospital, where he died at 1 a.m., authorities said.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known, and no one was in custody.

Woman fatally shot by man she was riding in car with in Grand Crossing identified as Shaundel Wimberly

A woman shot to death Monday afternoon in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side has been identified as 27-year-old Shaundel Wimberly, who formerly lived in north suburban Evanston.

Wimberly was a passenger in a dark-colored vehicle at 4:39 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 78th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The man who was driving the vehicle fired shots, hitting Wimberly, who got out of the vehicle and tried to run away, authorities said.

But the man also got out and shot her several more times before getting back in and driving away.

Wimberly suffered gunshot wounds to the head and face, and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

A graudate of Evanston Township High School, Wimberly, known to friends as “Carmel West,” also attended Oakton Communioty College. She worked at Burlington Coat Factory.

She lived several blocks away in the Avalon Park neighborhood.

Visitation and funeral services are planned for July 20 and 21 in north suburban Evanston.

The long Fourth of July weekend went out with a deadly bang last week, with at least 8 people killed in the last 10 hours of the four-day holiday period.

For the period from late Friday, JUne 30, through Wednesday morning, July 5, at least 12 people were killed and 87 others wounded in shootings across Chicago.

Last year’s Independence Day weekend, which was one day shorter than this year’s, ended with 66 people shot, four of them fatally—a total that actually stoked cautious optimism at the time as it marked the lowest death toll for the July 4 weekend in nearly a decade.

Eight of the people who died this year were among 36 people shot across the city in an 10-hour span of violence between about 5 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday.

  • It started with a man struck by a stray bullet Tuesday evening in the Riverdale neighborhood on the Far South Side. Witnesses told investigators that 21-year-old Aaron Gordon was shot by someone firing from a light-colored sedan into another vehicle at 5:18 p.m. in the 200 block of East 132nd St., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Gordon was sitting in a vehicle parked nearby when he was shot in his face, police said. He was not thought to be the intended target. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. He lived in south suburban County Club Hills.

Alejandro Montalvo stabbed to death during fight in Humboldt Park apartment

Alejandro Montalvo was stabbed to death Wednesday night during a fight in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The 32-year-old Montalvo was stabbed in the neck shortly after 8 p.m. during a fight inside an apartment in the 1400 block of North Kildare, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m., authorities said. Montalvo lived in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

No one was in custody as of Friday morning.

Robert Warren of Cicero fatally shot in North Lawndale

Robert Warren lived in the western suburbs, but he died Wednesday afternoon in a shooting in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

The shooting happened at 12:52 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Fillmore, according to Chicago Police.

Warren, 25, was shot multiple times, including at least once in the head, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.

Warren was a resident of west suburban Cicero.

Man charged with fatally shooting father of three Edward ‘Head’ Mason last month near the United Center

A man has been charged with fatally shooting father of three Edward Mason last month near the United Center on the Near West Side.

Albert D. Robinson, 31, faces one count of first-degree murder, according to Chicago Police. He was also wanted for a parole violation.

About 3:15 a.m. June 4, Robinson shot the 41-year-old Mason several times and left him in an empty lot in the 1800 block of West Maypole, according to police.

Mason, who lived in the North Center neighborhood, was shot in the head and chest, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:35 a.m., authorities said.

Neighbors at the crime scene said the victim went by the nickname “Head” and had three children.

Rhonda ‘Shon’ Hughes fatally struck by bullet while sleeping in her own apartment in Washington Park

>Rhonda “Shon” Hughes was sleeping in her own bed Tuesday morning when a bullet shattered the window of her garden apartment in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

An hour later, the 40-year-old died at a hospital of the gunshot wound, though Chicago Police still don’t know if she was the intended target.

Hughes was sleeping at 5:26 a.m. Tuesday in her home in the 5200 block of South King Drive, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Someone fired shots into the home from the street, and Hughes suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks, authorities said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died at 6:26 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Police said the shooter was definitely targeting the home, where Hughes lived with her husband and two teenage sons.

However, it was not clear if she was the intended target of the shooting. Neighbors reported hearing about five gunshots.

No one was in custody as of Thursday morning as Area Central detectives investigate.

15-year-old Julio Cesar Garcia-Lara tried to inspire kids to ‘feel good about being young in Chicago’

Spending most of his time volunteering with the St. Gall Catholic Church youth group, Julio Cesar Garcia-Lara, 15, was a charismatic “natural born leader,” according to his godfather, Gary Graf.

He was happy and full of enthusiasm, making the youth [at church] around him feel good about being young in Chicago,” Graf said.

Garcia-Lara’s life ended on June 12, shot to death while riding in the back of an SUV in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to Chicago Police.

Around 10:30 p.m., a white Dodge Charger started following the car Garcia-Lara was in on the 5900 block of South Pulaski, and someone started shooting. He was struck in the back and in the head, and died less than an hour later at Mount Sinai hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

This just seems so out of line with the life he was living,” Graf said.

Cedron Doles, controversial drill rapper who performed as Shoota Shellz, gunned down in Auburn Gresham

Another Chicago rap voice was silenced this week when Cedron Doles, better known as drill rapper Shoota Shellz, was gunned down while getting into his car Monday morning in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The 21-year-old Doles was approaching his vehicle at 9:32 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Paulina, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Three men with guns got out of a white vehicle and fired several rounds, striking Doles multiple times, authorities said.

Doles, who lived in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:40 a.m, authorities said.

Shoota Shellz was a drill rapper, who earned some notoriety because his dark, violent lyrics often dissed Chicago gangs and other rappers.

Among his best know songs was “Death of 150,” a diss track aimed at rapper G Herbo which was his first big hit. The video has been viewed more than 500,000 times. Other popular videos included “Real Ones,” “Godfather,” “Pac Man” and “Thought It was a Drought.”
