A neighbor said the shooting that killed Maurice Anthony Willis and Derwin Moore early Wednesday in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood are becoming “normal in the black community,” but he is at a loss as to how to stop them

Willis, 33, and Moore, 35, were standing on the sidewalk with the other men at 1:17 a.m. in front of a house in the 11000 block of South Eberhart, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Several males in a black SUV fired shots in their direction as they drove past, police said.

Willis, of the West Pullman neighborhood; and Moore, who lived just a block from the shooting, were both struck and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. One had been shot in the chest, the other was shot in the back.

Jerame Moore killed, second man wounded in shooting near Green Line tracks in West Garfield Park

Jerame E. Moore was killed and another man was injured in a shooting early Wednesday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

The men were standing in an alley at 12:26 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Lake when someone fired shots in their direction, according to Chicago Police.

The 30-year-old Moore was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:50 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side.

His body could be seen lying on the sidewalk under the Green Line tracks along Lake Street while people went in and out of a busy liquor store nearby on Pulaski.

A 37-year-old man also suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the side of his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

63-year-old Kelvin Harper stabbed to death in possible domestic dispute in his Washington Heights apartment

Police were questioning a person of interest after 63-year-old Kelvin Harper was found stabbed to death Wednesday afternoon in his Washington Heights neighborhood home on the Far South Side.

Officers were called to an apartment about 1:45 p.m. in the 800 block of West 103rd Street, according to Chicago Police.

They found Harper unresponsive with multiple stab wounds, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Thursday found he died of multiple injuries in an assault.

As of early Thursday, a person of interest was being questioned by Area South detectives, police said, but no charges had been filed.

The attack is believed to be domestic in nature, police said, though they did not provide further information.

Robert Hicks found shot to death on sidewalk in Englewood

A man found shot to death Wednesday morning in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side has been identified as Robert Hicks.

The 42-year-old was found on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds at 3:32 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Laflin, according to Chicago Police and Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Hicks was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:12 a.m., authorities said.

He lived in the South Side West Chesterfield neighborhood.

Shedrick McPherson killed, two other men wounded when gunman opens fire in Bronzeville

Shedrick Joel McPherson Jr. was killed and two other men were wounded in a shooting early Wednesday in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

The three men were standing on the sidewalk at 12:01 a.m. in the 300 block of East 47th when someone fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

McPherson, 31, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was dropped off at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:21 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the South Side Avalon Park neighborhood.

A 45-year-old was shot in the chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. The third man, 33, walked into Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transferred to Stroger in critical condition.

Aaron Gordon of Country Club Hills struck and killed by stray bullet on July 4 on Far South Side

A stray bullet left Aaron Gordon dead Tuesday evening in the Riverdale neighborhood on the Far South Side, authorities said.

Witnesses told investigators the 21-year-old Gordon was sitting in a parked vehicle about 5:18 p.m. in the 200 block of East 132nd St. on Independence Day, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Two other vehicles were in the area and someone fired shots from a light-colored sedan into the other vehicle, police said.

Gordon was struck in the face by an errant bullet, and was not the intended target, police said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m., authorities said.

He lived in south suburban County Club Hills.

Man found shot to death on Near West Side identified as 39-year-old Jermaine Blandin

A man found shot to death late Sunday in the Illinois Medical District on the Near West Side has been identified as Jermaine E. Blandin.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot about 11:35 p.m. and found the 39-year-old Blandin lying face down in the street in the 1800 block of West 14th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:48 p.m., authorities said.

Blandin lived in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Stray bullet kills 56-year-old Tyrone Burdine on the block where he lived in Austin

Tyrone Burdine was killed by a stray bullet, and another man was wounded, in a drive-by shooting Tuesday night on the Austin neighborhood block where he lives.

About 8:15 p.m., someone fired shots from a vehicle in the 1600 block of North Major, according to Chicago Police.

Burdine, 56, was standing in front of a home and was struck in the head by an errant shot, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Burdine, who lives on the block, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead more than four hours later at 12:43 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

He was not thought to be an intended target of the shooting.

A 19-year-old man walking on the street was shot in the back, police said. He was also taken to Loyola, where he was listed in serious condition.

Judge: No bond for pair charged with killing Javon Jackson, Sedrick Ringer and John Hunter in ‘acts of terror and horror’

Two men sprayed the front of an Englewood home with more than 40 gunshots Friday, killing Javon Jackson and Sedrick Ringer, who were on the porch, and John Hunter, who was inside when he was struck by a stray bullet, Cook County prosecutors said.

After unleashing the fatal volley of shots, Timothy Gordon, 19; and Javon Dorsey, 21, ran from the house in the 5700 block of South Wells, climbed into a car and raced south on the Dan Ryan Expressway, Assistant State’s Attorney Craig Taczy said at the pair’s bond hearing Monday.

Trailed by a police squad car, they eventually crashed on an embankment after a few miles, Taczy said.

Jackson, 30, was stuck eight times and died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Friday night. Ringer, 50, suffered nine gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two days later, relatives came to the house looking for Hunter. They found the 52-year-old dead inside with a wound to his thigh, Taczy said. Police found 43 shell casings outside the house.

Gloria Aguilar and Alfonso Toro shot to death in Bronzeville when gunman opens fire on SUV they were riding in

Gloria Aguilar and Alfonso Toro Jr. were killed in a shooting Friday morning in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood.

Four people were inside a vehicle that was heading south about 7:10 a.m. in the 4100 block of South State Street, according to Chicago Police.

When they stopped at a red light, a black SUV pulled alongside them, and a male inside the SUV started shooting at them. Two back-seat passengers were struck before the driver of the victim’s vehicle drove away from the shooters, police said.

The vehicle had stopped in the 5400 block of South Wentworth when police arrived.

They found the 22-year-old Toro, who had been shot in the head, shoulder and back. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Aguilar, 23, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and a gunshot wound to the right arm, police and the medical examiner’s office said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:33 a.m.

A West Elsdon neighborhood resident, Aguilar was a graduate of Hubbard High School and worked as a dental assistant.

The driver and front-seat passenger were not injured in the shooting, police said.
