Tashika Manuel-Dunbar of Forest Park shot to death in vehicle after meeting boyfriend in Longwood Manor

Tashika Manuel-Dunbar was talking to her boyfriend early Wednesday in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side when a vehicle drove by and someone started shooting.

The 35-year-old had just returned to her car at 2:44 a.m. in the 9700 block of South Morgan when another vehicle approached and shots were fired, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

It may have been a case of mistaken identity, according to family members.

Manuel-Dunbar suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and torso, and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:15 a.m., authorities said.

The Prosser Career Academy graduate lived in west suburban Forest Park.

Her boyfriend, who was in another vehicle, was not injured.

James King shot to death in street while going to visit family members in Englewood

James D. King lived on the Near West Side, but went to visit family early Wednesday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

He never made it. The 22-year-old was shot to death early Wednesday near his parked car in the 6600 block of SOuth Carpenter, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

King was found about 12:35 a.m. lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to authorities.

The Near West Side resident was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 1:59 a.m., authorities said.

No one was in custody as of Thursday morning.

Two men have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Devon Almon in the broad daylight last fall on the Eisenhower Expressway on the West Side.

Irell D. Dickens, 29; and Terreon Johnson, 27, each face one count of first-degree murder, Illinois State Police announced Wednesday.

The shooting happened about noon on Sept. 29, 2016 in the eastbound lanes of I-290 at Central Avenue.

Devon Almon, 24, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a female friend after leaving the Cook County courthouse in Maywood. The vehicle was stopped at a red light when shots rang out, police said.

The driver took Almon to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m., authorities said.

Jonathan Green found shot to death in street just a block away from his North Lawndale home


Jonathan Green had gone out to get breakfast for his children when he was found shot to death Tuesday morning just a block from his home in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 11 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Karlov found the 34-year-old lying in the street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Green was unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head and torso, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:36 a.m., police and the medical examiner’s office said.

Green, a married father of seven, lived about a block away from where the shooting occurred. A family member said he had gone out to get breakfast for the family when he was gunned down.

60-year-old Antonio Vaughn Sr. found stabbed to death in his Chatham home

A man found stabbed to death Monday morning in his South Side Chatham neighborhood home has been identified as Antonio P. Vaughn Sr.

The 60-year-old was found with stab wounds to the neck and chest inside the home in the 500 block of East 92nd Street at 11:15 a.m. Monday, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy Tuesday found he died of multiple sharp force injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Area South detectives are investigating.

Best friends Breyon Cowans and DeShawn Johnson fatally shot while stopped for light in West Garfield Park

Breyon K. Cowans and DeShawn Johnson were stopped at a traffic light while driving early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood when someone in another vehicle started shooting, fatally wounding both men.

Cowans, 24; and Johnson, 23—best friends who, according to a friend’s Facebook post, were “never seen … without the other”—were stopped at a light about 2:35 a.m. while driving south on Cicero Avenue at Madison Street. A black Chevrolet pulled up and someone inside opened fire in their direction, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The men were both struck, but turned west on Madison Street before their vehicle struck a building and a person in a wheelchair, police said.

Cowans, of the West Garfield Park neighborhood, suffered gunshot wounds to the back and right arm, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:09 a.m., authorities said.

Johnson, of west suburban Broadview, was also shot, and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 4 a.m., authorities said.

The man in the wheelchair, whose age was not provided, was taken to Stroger Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said.

No one was in custody for the shootings.

Jamari Richmond killed in Mother’s Day drive-by while playing basketball in front of his Englewood home

Jamari Richmond was playing basketball in the street in front of his home in Englewood on Mother’s Day when two vehicles passed by and someone started shooting.

The 18-year-old senior at Robeson High School died about 2 1/2 hours after one of those bullets struck him in the head, according to Chicago Police.

A GoFundMe page set up to help the family gave this account: “He was killed by gunfire on Mother’s Day in front of his home in Englewood, while playing basketball with his older brother. He took his last breaths in my sister’s arms. We can’t take away the unimaginable pain his mother is feeling…”

It was about 2:43 p.m. when Richmond was playing on a curbside basket in the 7300 block of South Union Avenue, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The shots were fired from one of two vehicles driving north. Richmond suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:06 p.m., authorities said.

Richmond, who would have graduated in a few weeks, posted this on Facebook about an hour before he was shot: “Happy Mothers Day ❤️😩 You A True One ☝️🌸”

The GoFundMe page author wrote: “Jamari once said, ‘I’m just living the hand I’ve been dealt.’ He was a kid trying to fit in but he never harmed anyone.”

Coach: CMA-B hoops player Donnell Hudson, shot to death while walking near his Fernwood home, ‘didn’t deserve this’

Donnell Hudson was a “great kid who grew up in a rough environment,” according to his high school basketball coach, who called him a “feisty kid” full of “energy and toughness.”

But on Saturday night, the 17-year-old was shot to death while walking near his home in the Fernwood neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The boy was walking in the 10500 block of South Lafayette Avenue at 8:36 p.m. when a male suspect walked up to him and started shooting, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The shooter then ran off.

Hudson was shot in the back and chest, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:55 p.m., authorities said. He lived just two about two blocks from here he was shot.

Hudson played one year for Coach Marvin Jordan’s Panthers at Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville, and he definitely left an impression on his coach and team.

19-year-old Devonta Brownlee shot to death by people in other vehicles while driving in Fernwood on Sunday

Devonta Brownlee was driving Sunday afternoon in the Far South Side Fernwood neighborhood when two vehicles started to follow him. When people in those other vehicles started shooting, the 19-year-old suffered a fatal wound to the neck.

It was just after 2 p.m. when Brownlee was driving in the 10600 block of South Parnell Avenue, Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Two vehicles began following and people inside those vehicles began shooting at him.

After being struck in the neck, Brownlee crashed into multiple parked vehicles before coming to a stop, authorities said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 2:58 p.m.

He lived in the West Pullman neighborhood.

The other vehicles sped away after the shooting, and no one was in custody.

Witnesses hear gunshots, find Warren Delton with fatal gunshot wounds in West Woodlawn

After hearing gunshots Sunday afternoon in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, witnesses went to check and found Warren Delton lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds.

Just minutes later, he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police they heard gunshots about 12:13 p.m., and found the 44-year-old Delton lying on the sidewalk in the 6100 block of South Eberhart, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Delton, whose home address was unknown, had been shot multiple times in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:28 p.m., authorities said.

No one was in custody as of Monday morning.
