A Washington Park neighborhood man died Tuesday night after being beaten in the head with a bottle almost two months ago on the South Side.

Steven Cannon, 29, of the 5800 block of South King Drive, died from blunt force head injuries, impacts to the head and blunt force injures to the torso, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police responded about 3:15 a.m. Dec. 22, 2012, to the 7200 block of South Bennett Avenue and found Cannon unconscious, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

Witnesses told police Cannon got into an argument with a man, then more people got involved and began punching Cannon, police said. One of the men struck Cannon in the head with a bottle, knocking him unconscious.

Cannon was initially taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said. He was declared dead at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at RML Specialty Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.
