One man was ordered held without bond Wednesday, and another was jailed in lieu of $2 million in a would-be robbery and shooting Monday in Chicago Lawn that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man.

Christopher Lang was gunned down around midnight as he walked on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West 72nd Place. Lang, who lived less than two blocks from there, died hours later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn of a gunshot wound to the torso.

Police: Murders down 20 percent from last year

Chicago saw nine fewer murders in November 2013 than in November 2012 and maintained a 20 percent decrease in total murders from last year, Chicago Police said.

Thirty people were killed in November 2013, compared with 39 last year and 37 in 2011, Chicago Police spokesman Adam Collins said. Chicago continues to be on pace to have the fewest murders since 1965, police said.

Man fatally shot in Lincoln Square McDonald’s parking lot

A man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Lincoln Square McDonald’s Monday night on the Northwest Side.

The 25-year-old man was shot in the head about 7:30 p.m. in a dark-color BMW sedan in the McDonald’s parking lot in the 4900 block of North Lincoln Avenue, authorities said.

Police: 2013 lowest murder total since 1965

Chicago recorded its lowest murder total through the first 10 months of a year since 1965, Chicago Police said Friday.

Thirty-three people were murdered in October 2013, down from 36 people in October 2012 and 44 people in 2011, Chicago Police spokesman Adam Collins said.

Overall, 354 people were murdered in the city through the first 10 months of 2013 — a 20 percent decrease from the 443 people murdered through October 2012, Collins said.

Police: 1 dead, 4 wounded, in one hour

One man is dead and four others were wounded Thursday evening, following one bloody hour of South Side gun violence.
A 36-year-old man who was shot in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood died about an hour later, after he was rushed to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Read more

Man killed in Wicker Park shooting

A man was shot to death in the Wicker Park neighborhood early Saturday, police said.

The 19-year-old was shot in the head about 2:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

A witness to the shooting told a Sun-Times reporter he was standing outside of a bar on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue when he saw two people walk up to the now-deceased man on the other side of the street, then heard three gunshots.

Police were on patrol when they heard gunshots near the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and North Honore Street. When they arrived, they found the man dead in the street, Greer said.

Police were questioning three people in connection with the shooting early Saturday, Greer said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death but did not immediately release the man’s identity.

The attack happened about a block west of Wicker Park, where a shooting on Sept. 7 killed 34-year-old Emmanuel Bass and critically wounded another man.

Area North detectives are investigating.

Man found dead in Humboldt Park was beaten, strangled

An unidentified man found unresponsive in Humboldt Park on Thursday morning was choked and beaten, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
The man, thought to be in his 50s, was found in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Police said he was found unresponsive in a gangway about 6:30 a.m. and taken to John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he later died.Read more

Man shot to death in Humboldt Park

A man was fatally shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood Thursday morning.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was found shot in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

He was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 7:09 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Police could not immediately provide more details about the shooting.

Man killed in Roseland shooting

A man was killed in a shooting Thursday afternoon on the Far South Side.

The shooting happened during a possible robbery a few minutes after 1 p.m. in the 10400 block of South Perry Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.

The man, 34, was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died, authorities said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the man’s death, but was not releasing his identity pending notification of his family.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.

Man found shot dead on South Side

A man was found shot dead Saturday morning in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

Officers responded to a call of a man down at 7:05 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Ellsworth Drive, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said.

The man, in his 20s, was found on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, Sullivan said. He was dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office was notified of the death.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
