A man shot to death Wednesday evening in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood has been identified as 39-year-old Alejandro Morales.
Morales was shot in the right side of the torso at 7:23 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Paulina, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Morales, who lived about two blocks away in the 4500 block of South Hermitage, was taken to University of Illinois Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
A man faces murder charges for the deaths of his friend, Donald Carter Brunson, and rival Miguel Williams during a deadly shootout in the Far South Side West Pullman neighborhood last month.
Meanwhile, Rodney Harbin’s attorney argued that the incident on Sept. 21 was a case of self-defense.
Harbin killed Miguel Williams near the parking lot of Halsted Bowl in the 12000 block of South Halsted Street, Cook County prosecutors said in court Thursday.
While pointing a gun at the driver of an SUV, Harbin demanded the driver give up the vehicle in exchange for a gun he accused Williams of stealing, Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Santini said. Read more
A 28-year-old woman has been charged with fatally shooting Marilyn Duffie during a fight Tuesday evening in the Eden Green neighborhood on the Far South Side.
Chicago Police said the argument was domestic-related and both women lived on the block where the shooting happened, though their relationship wasn’t clear.
Tiera Graves faces one count of first-degree murder, police announced Friday.
Graves and the 21-year-old Duffie were arguing about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of East 130th Street, when Graves shot Duffie in the chest, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Duffie was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Graves was scheduled to appear in bond court Friday.
A man who faced charges after his 6-year-old son found a loaded gun and accidentally killed his 3-year-old brother Eian H. Santiago last year in their Humboldt Park apartment has been sentenced to probation.
Michael Santiago, 26, pleaded guilty Monday to endangering the life or health of a child before Judge Alfredo Maldonado, according to Cook County court records.
Santiago bought a revolver to protect himself after the former gang member testified at a murder trial, prosecutors said last year. He did not have a concealed carry license or an FOID card.

Chicago Fire Dept. crews responded at 7:48 p.m. Sept. 23 to a fire report near 21st and Jefferson, according to Chicago Police and fire officials.
The body was found in the back seat of the SUV once the fire was extinguished, according to fire officials and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy found Gerage, who lived in the 100 block of Remington Drive in Barrington Hills, died of multiple injuries due to an assault, the medical examiner’s office announced Thursday. His death was ruled a homicide,
Area Central detectives are investigating, but no suspects are in custody.
Christopher Walters was fatally shot Wednesday evening in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood.
The 24-year-old was shot in the shoulder and leg at 6:54 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Prairie, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Walters, who lived in the 6200 block of South Champlain, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
As of Thursday morning, police could not provide additional details on the shooting as Area Central detectives investigate.
At least 16 people were killed last week in Chicago as the city’s homicide total edged closer to the 600 mark, a number not seen in decades.
That number included seven people killed in a bloody 12-hour period starting just before 7 p.m. Friday and ending about 7 a.m.
That deadly 12 hours started when an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in West Garfield Park at 6:49 p.m. Friday. Faizon Smith was in the gangway of a building in the 4500 block of West Maypole when someone fired shots from a sedan and drove away, according to the Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Smith was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just over an hour later, two men were fatally shot in a drive-by in Austin, police said. About 8 p.m., Jamal Thomas, 18; and Jermale Richardson, 20, were standing by a parked car in the 5500 block of West Congress when a grey sedan pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
Thomas, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was struck in the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Richardson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was also pronounced dead at Stroger.
Less than 20 minutes later, a man was killed and six others wounded in a shooting in East Garfield Park. At 8:18 p.m., the group was standing together outside in the 3300 block of West Maypole when someone inside a black vehicle driving east on Maypole began shooting. Read more
A man who was shot to death Tuesday morning in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side has been identified as a south suburban resident Jamar Robinson.
Robinson, 23, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest at 6:58 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of West 117th Place, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Robinson, of the 15500 block of Myrtle Avenue in Harvey, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:05 a.m., authorities said.
Anthony L. Banks was in his early twenties when he was shot, and 30 years later, at age 52, he died of his wounds.
On Wednesday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled the death of the South Side resident, who was shot in 1987, was a homicide.
Banks died at his home in the 3800 block of South State Street at 10:16 a.m. Sept. 30, according to the medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy has since found that he died of complications from the gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The shooting happened in 1987, but neither the medical examiner’s office nor Chicago Police could provide further details.
