A woman fatally stabbed her on-again, off-again boyfriend Antone L. Sims after he pulled her hair during a fight at a West Pullman apartment late Saturday, according to Cook County prosecutors.

Vanessa Sanders, 38, faces first-degree murder charges for the 11:10 p.m. stabbing in the 11500 block of South Perry, Chicago Police announced Tuesday.

Sanders had been in an intermittent romantic relationship with the 28-year-old Sims, and she went with him to the first-floor apartment where he was going to do someone’s hair, prosecutors said at her bond hearing Wednesday.

They got into an argument that turned physical, and Sims pulled Sanders’ hair before another person separated them, prosecutors said.

Vanessa Sanders faces first-degree murder charges for the 11:10 p.m. attack in the 11500 block of South Perry, Chicago Police announced Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Sims was arguing with Sanders in a first-floor apartment when she stabbed him in the chest with a knife and then fled the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Sims, of the 100 block of West Devoe Drive in southwest suburban Oswego, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:17 a.m., authorities said.

Sanders, 38, of the 5000 block of South Winchester, is due in bond court Wednesday.

Murder charge dropped against suspect in fatal 2014 shooting of Albert Glover in Austin

A murder charge has been dropped against a man accused of shooting Albert Glover to death in 2014 in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Terrell Boyd, 26, was charged in November with first-degree murder for the shooting death of the 56-year-old Glover, according to Cook County court records.

The charge was dropped at a hearing last Wednesday before Judge Donald Panarese, according to court records.

Glover was outside his home in the 100 block of North Leamington Avenue at 1:36 p.m. on June 26, 2014, when two people got out of a van in the alley behind the home, walked up and shot him in the back and left leg, authorities said at the time.

Glover was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died less than an hour later, authorities said.

No one was else was charged in connection with the murder.

A South Side man was ordered held on a $600,000 bond Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a gunfight that left his friend Antinino Walker dead in Avalon Park last winter.

Alden Welch was charged with murder in connection with the shootout that left Walker dead on March 3.

Walker was with Welch and Isreal Taylor when he was killed in a shootout between Taylor and a 25-year-old man who apparently owed Welch money from a dice game, Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday.

That man had spoken with Welch on the phone on March 3 about paying Welch back, Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Santini said.

When Welch told the man he’d come over to collect the debt that day, the man told Welch to come to his house in 8000 block of South Dante. He told Welch he should come alone, Santini said.

During a week when the city’s attention was captivated by the video of the police shooting of LaQuan McDonald, and the subsequent protests; at least 11 people were killed in violence in Chicago.

At least eight of those deaths occurred during a bloody Thanksgiving weekend during which nearly 30 people were shot. And a man is facing reckless homicide charges for a 12th death caused by what prosecutors called a DUI crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

A man was fatally shot Sunday night in the Englewood. Jimmy Jenkins, 28, was found unresponsive at 7:55 p.m. in a gangway in the 900 block of West 59th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Jenkins, who lived in the 5900 block of South Morgan Street, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:16 p.m., authorities said.

A northwest man was sentenced to two years in prison last week for fatally shooting Alprentiss Nash, who tried to rob him last summer on the Near West Side.

Paul Vukadinovic, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison by Judge Catherine Haberkorn, according to Cook County court records.

Vukadinovic shot the 40-year-old Nash in the chest at 2:20 p.m. July 28 in the 400 block of South Paulina, authorities said.

Nash tried to rob Vukadinovic, “with whom he had a long drug history,” police said at the time. Both men were armed and they exchanged gunfire.

Nash, of the 100 block of North LaPorte Avenue, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Man charged with reckless homicide, aggravated DUI for crash on Dan Ryan that left Chalan Peterson dead

A 35-year-old man was drunk and arguing with his girlfriend, Chalan V. Peterson, on Friday when he crashed into a median on the Dan Ryan Expressway near U.S. Cellular Field, killing her, Cook County prosecutors said.

Peterson’s 2-year-old son, who was in the back seat, was not seriously injured.

Lyman B. Harvey, 35, who had a blood alcoholic content of .135—well over the legal limit of .08—told police after the crash happened about 12:30 a.m. that he drank a few beers earlier that evening at a Thanksgiving party, prosecutors said in court Sunday.

According to court documents, Harvey told police that what began as an argument between the couple turned into a physical altercation when Peterson took off her seat belt and struck Harvey on the right side of his head.

18-year-old is third to be charged with shootings at Fuller Park barbecue that left three dead, two wounded

An 18-year-old man is the third person to be charged with killing three people and wounding two others in a shooting two months ago during a barbecue in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood.

Calvan Colbert has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Ayanna Northern, Antian Hardmon and Tyrone Spikes; and two counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, according to Chicago Police.

Anthony Jackson, 20; and Lawrence Brown, 22, were charged with three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated battery in October. Brown is also charged with one count of unlawful use and possession of a weapon by a felon, police said.

Five people were shot about 12:10 a.m. on Sept. 29 in the 300 block of West 42nd Street when two men opened fire from an alley on about 30 people at a barbecue, police said at the time. The barbecue was commemorating someone who died in a crash years ago.

Antone Sims of Oswego stabbed to death by woman after argument in West Pullman


Antone L. Sims of southwest suburban Oswego was stabbed to death Saturday night in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Sims, 28, was arguing with a woman about 11:10 p.m. in a first-floor apartment in the 11500 block of South Perry Avenue when she stabbed him in the chest with a knife, then ran away, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Sims, of the 100 block of West Devoe Drive in Oswego, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:17 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

An autopsy found Sims died of multiple stab and incise wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The relationship of the two was not known and no one was in custody as of late Sunday.
