16-year-old charged with fatally shooting Jermaine Brown in May in Washington Park

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with fatally shooting Jermaine Brown in May in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

The teenager faces felony counts of first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to Chicago Police. The boy, who was not identified because of his age, was also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of ammunition.

At 7:42 p.m. on May 8, someone walked up to the 23-year-old Brown in the 5400 block of South Indiana and opened fire, authorities said at the time.

Brown, who lived in the same neighborhood, was shot multiple times and died at the scene at 7:48 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

$1M bond for man charged with fatal shooting of Jamal Webb last month in Chatham

A 20-year-old man is being held on a $1 million bond after being charged with a June shooting in the South Side Chatham neighborhood that left Jamal Webb dead.

Webb, 23, was walking outside about 1:45 p.m. June 2 in the 7800 block of South Champlain when Kirk Thompson got out of a dark-colored car, walked up and shot him, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Webb suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2 p.m., authorities said. Both men lived in the Chatham neighborhood.

Thompson was charged with first degree murder, police said. He is being held at the Cook County Jail on a $1 million bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 9.

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a person wanted for stabbing 22-year-old Corvel Denzel Brown to death earlier this month at the 95th Street Red Line station on the Far South Side.

Brown was stabbed in the abdomen during an argument in front of the turnstile at the train station in the 0–100 block of West 95th Street at 12:37 p.m. July 9, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Brown, who lived just blocks away from his home, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 2:36 p.m., authorities said.

The attacker got away, police said.

He was described as a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 black man weighing 140–155 pounds. He had a medium complexion and short dreadlocks, and was wearing a black T-shirt with black and white shorts.

Jaron Jackson shot to death while standing outside Pulaski Pink Line station in Lawndale

Jaron Jackson was going home after visiting his mother when he was shot to death Thursday night at a Pink Line station in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

About 9:05 p.m., the 21-year-old Jackson was standing outside the Pulaski Pink Line station in the 2000 block of South Pulaski when another man approached him and fired several shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Witnesses said they heard more than a dozen shots fired.

Jackson, whose family said he lived in southwest suburban Shorewood, was shot in the neck and back. He was pronounced dead at the scene 20 minutes later, authorities said.

No one was in custody for the shooting Friday morning, but police were hoping to find a suspect by looking at surveillance tapes from the CTA station.

They ranged from young children to retired seniors, from retired Marines to drill rappers to anti-violence activists. They lived on the West Side, the South Side, and the East Side.

The only thing they had in common? They were among 23 people killed in Chicago last week, one of the more violent weeks of the year as the city surpassed last year’s homicide total and neared the 400 mark for the year (385 as July 21, compared to 369 a year ago).

The youngest victim was a 10-year-old boy killed in a shooting that also left a man critically wounded Friday evening in East Side, Gustavo Garcia was in an SUV with his stepfather and a 31-year-old man at 11:13 p.m., traveling west in the 3500 block of East 97th Street, Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A gray car pulled up next to them and someone inside fired shots. Gustavo was shot in the back and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he died, authorities said. He lived in the South Chicago neighborhood. The man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was in critical condition, according to police. He was shot in the back, face and chest.

The oldest victim was 60-year-old retired Marine shot to death during an attempted robbery Saturday morning in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. Robert Sharpe was walking to the bus on the way to a dialysis treatment at 4:55 a.m. in the 3200 block of West Franklin when an armed male confronted him and demanded his money, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Anniversary of William ‘Nook’ Palmer’s death leaves family wanting ‘proper justice,’ and not just for Nook

It has been just over a year since 32-year-old William Palmer was fatally shot as he slept in his car near his home at the 6300 block of South Honore last June.

His mother, Rosemary Palmer, 60, said she remembers the day she got the call from Chicago Police saying her son had been shot in the head.

Upon receiving the call, she immediately went to the crime scene.

“I saw the yellow tape and then I saw the red tape. I remembered someone telling me that the red tape meant someone died and I dropped to my knees knowing it was my baby,” Rosemary Palmer said.

William Palmer, referred to as “Nook” by family, was a storyteller and jokester, according to a family member. His mother said his cousin gave him the nickname when William was a baby.

Jermaine Robinson, who rapped as FBG Brick; and pal Coby Mack gunned down in front of a home in Woodlawn

Jermaine Robinson, known on the Chicago rap scene as FBG Brick, was gunned down along with his friend Stanley Jacoby Mack, known as Coby Mack, on Monday afternoon in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.

Police were called to a shooting about 2:50 p.m. Monday in the 6300 block of South St. Lawrence.

They found one of the victims in front of a home with a gunshot wound to the head, and the other man in the back gangway with gunshot wounds to the back and arm, according to Chicago Police.

Mack, 31; and Robinson, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Mack lived in the West Side Austin neighborhood, while Robinson lived in South Shore.

Autopsies Tuesday found both men died of multiple gunshot wounds, and their deaths were ruled homicides, according to the medical examiner’s office.

No one was in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

15-year-old Alex Gonzalez of Bolingbrook fatally shot while riding in vehicle in Humboldt Park

Fifteen-year-old Alex Gonzalez of southwest suburban Bolingbrook was killed in a shooting Sunday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

At 12:17 a.m., the teen was a passenger in a vehicle heading north in the 1000 block of North Sacramento, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Someone fired in a black sedan fired shots, and Gonzalez was struck multiple times in the back of his head, authorities said.

Gonzales was taken to Norwegian American Hospital and then transferred to Stroger Hospital. He died there about nine hours later at 9:40 p.m., authorities said.

No one is in custody.

Gonzalez had just compelted 8th grade and would have been a freshman at Bolingbrook High School in the fall.

Michael Peterman shot to death by man he invited into his home in Heart of Chicago

1600 block of West 18th Place

Michael Peterman was shot to death by an invited guest Tuesday night at his home in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the South Side.

The 28-year-old Peterman invited an acquaintance to his home about 10:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 18th Place, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

At some point, the male guest pulled out a gun and shot Peterman in the abdomen before running away, authorities said.

Peterman was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

No one was in custody as of Thursday.

70-year-old Leroy Moore dies after being caught in crossfire while walking along State Street in Park Monor

A man killed in a shooting Tuesday night while walking with a friend in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side has been identified as 70-year-old Leroy Moore.

Moore was walking from a store about 8:20 p.m. in the 7100 block of South State when he heard gunshots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police said two cars were speeding down State Street and people inside both cars were firing shots at each other.

Moore, who lived in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood on the Far South Side, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m., authorities said.

More was retired from GE, and was married with two children and a granddaughter.

Moore’s nephew was Howard Moore, assistant basketball coach at Wisconsin and former head coach at UIC.

In a Twitter post, he wrote: “Please pray for my family as my uncle, Leroy was caught in crossfire and killed in Chicago last night. I’m stunned and devastated right now.”

On Facebook, he wrote: “My heart is crushed after hearing the news last night that my uncle Leroy Moore was shot and killed. For those that knew my uncle, he had a larger than life persona my biggest supporter.”

No one was in custody as of Thursday morning.
