A man who was shot to death nearly two weeks ago in the Englewood neighborhood has been identified as 41-year-old Mbiganyi Lashani, a West Side resident and native of Botswana.
Officers responded to a call of a person shot at 5:58 a.m. Friday, July 29, in the 6500 block of South Peoria, and found the victim unresponsive, according to Chicago Police.
Lashani was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:20 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 3200 block of West Walnut in East Garfield Park.
An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
According to his Facebook page, Lashani was a native of Botswana, who came to the United States more than 10 years ago. He studied at DePaul University and Keller Graduate School of Management, and had worked as a substitute teacher in Chicago and Proviso East High School in Maywood.

Michael Lucas was shot to death Monday afternoon as the 61-year-old was sitting on his front porch in the Chatham neighborhood.

At 1:18 p.m., Lucas was on a front porch in the 9100 block of South Cottage Grove watching a 3-year-old relative play in the yard.
Someone then fired shots in his direction, authorities said.
Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The child was not injured.
Chicago Police said Lucas was not the intended target of the shooting.

Erik L. Williams was fatally shot while standing on a porch in the West Englewood neighborhood Monday night.
Williams, 27, was standing on a front porch at 10:18 p.m. in the 1800 block of West 58th when someone in a gray sedan fired shots at him, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Williams, of the 1200 block of West 71st Place, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the side of his torso and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m., authorities said.

William Villa was killed while driving in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood early Monday.
Villa was driving a black SUV in the 1100 block of North Western Avenue at 2:27 a.m. when he stopped at a red light at Western and Division, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A dark-colored car pulled alongside his vehicle and someone inside opened fire, police said. Villa’s SUV then pulled forward and crashed into a traffic light at the northeast corner of the intersection.

Two teenagers have been charged with the accidental fatal shooting of 15-year-old
Mario Venegas Jr. last week as they played with a gun inside a Humboldt Park neighborhood home.
Venegas suffered a gunshot wound to the head about 1:25 p.m. in a building in the 2700 block of West Evergreen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 8:58 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. He lived in 2000 block of West McLean. An autopsy Sunday ruled his death a homicide.

A man has been charged with fatally stabbing his stepfather, 51-year-old Michael Montgomery, to death in the Ashburn neighborhood last week.

Chadwick Perkins, 26, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the Wednesday attack at the home he shared with Montgomery in the 3900 block of West 85th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
When they got into a fight just after 5 a.m., Perkins stabbed Montgomery repeatedly across the upper body, authorities allege. The older man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died there at 7:34 a.m.
Perkins was taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation and later charged with the attack, police said.
He was ordered held without bond during a hearing Sunday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is Aug. 24.

Everick Lavon Coleman was killed when gunfire erupted at his own birthday party early Sunday in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.
A woman was also injured by gunfire at the party, which was attended by more than 100 people.
About 2:20 a.m., the 43-year-old Coleman, known to friends as “Blue,” and the 40-year-old woman were outside at the party in the 1300 block of West Hastings when someone opened fire, according to authorities.
Coleman, of the 2400 block of West Madison, was shot in the head and chest, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:42 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Victor Alvarado was killed in a drive-by shooting while walking in the Pilsen neighborhood Saturday night.
About 11 p.m., the 26-year-old Alvarado was walking in the 1900 block of South May when someone began shooting from a passing silver car, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Alvarado was shot multiple times and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. He lived in the 2500 block of West 40th Street.

Luis Marin, a former TSA agent who worked security at Chicago Public Schools, was fatally shot in the South Deering neighborhood early Sunday.
Someone shot Marin several times in the head about 4:25 a.m. in the 11600 block of South Torrence, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:05 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police said the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute and home invasion that happened earlier in the 10700 block of South Avenue N.
Marin, 29, was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School who worked for the TSA until 2013, according to an agency spokesman. He most recently worked as a school security officer at Henry Clay Elementary School, according to CPS.
No one was in custody as of early Monday as Area South detectives investigate.

A person is in custody for a Riverdale neighborhood shooting that left 17-year-old Corey Buckner dead and a man wounded early Sunday.
About 2:20 a.m., the pair the boy was outside with a 41-year-old man in the 300 block of East 130th Street when they heard gunfire and realized they’d been hit, according to Chicago Police.
They were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where Buckner died of a gunshot wound to the head at 7:57 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 13200 block of South Eberhart.
The man was also shot, though it wasn’t clear where on the body he was hit. His condition was stabilized, police said.
A person was arrested after the shooting and charges were pending early Monday, police said.
