While he was sitting at a table in his second-floor apartment in Roseland on Tuesday night, Demarco V. Kennedy was struck by a bullet fired from outside.
It was about 8:10 p.m. and the 32-year-old Kennedy was home in the 600 block of East 102nd Place. He was eating dinner before heading to work when he was shot in the neck, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Kennedy was taken to Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:14 p.m., authorities said.
Kennedy is the father of three, but while his wife and kids were home at the time, they were in another room and were not injured, a police source said.
Police believe the shots may have fired from the parking lot of a Popeye’s restaurant down the block, but no one was in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
Eighteen-year-old Julius Maurice Coleman had just gotten out of a car when another car drove past and bullets started flying Tuesday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood.
Coleman was on the street after getting dropped off at 2:07 p.m. in the 5600 block of South May when someone in a passing blue vehicle began shooting, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Coleman, of the 6000 block of South Green, was shot in the chest, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:56 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
Cortez Tate was shot to death Tuesday night in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
The 25-year-old was shot in the head at 8:27 p.m. in the 7300 block of North Rogers, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Tate, of the 7600 block of North Sheridan, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 11:24 p.m., authorities said.
Ireal C. Mitchell was fatally shot Monday evening in a drive-by in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
The 22-year-old Mitchell was in the 800 block of South Springfield at 7:22 p.m. when someone in a gray vehicle shot him multiple times, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Mitchell, of the 4000 block of West 5th Avenue, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:03 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy found he died of gunshot wounds to the torso and right upper arm, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Anthony Hatchett was killed and two other men were critically wounded in a Roseland neighborhood shooting late Monday night.

The three were standing on the sidewalk at 11:17 p.m. in the 9400 block of South LaSalle when a blue car drove past and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police.
Hatchett, 44, was shot in the head, and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:11 a.m. Tuesday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 10600 block of South Parnell.
A 28-year-old man who was shot in the back was also taken to Christ Medical Center, police said. The third man, 30, was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the right arm and left leg. Both were listed in critical condition.
John Hosey Jr. was shot to death Monday night while driving in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side.
Hosey, 28, was driving at 9:24 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw when he heard gunfire and felt pain, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He suffered gunshot wounds to the left arm, torso and back; and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:32 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 3900 block of West Fillmore.

Lee Martin was shot to death early Monday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
Officers responding about 2:25 a.m. to a call of a person shot in the 3200 block of West Walnut found him lying on the sidewalk, according to Chicago Police.
Martin, 43, had suffered gunshot wounds to the head and back, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:39 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 6500 block of South Loomis.
His body lay in the parkway between the sidewalk and street, covered by a sheet.
A woman who lives on the block said the shooting was just another reason for her to move out of Chicago, or at least to a new neighborhood.
She said she was a strict mother who kept her teenage children close and inside her apartment.
“I tell them I don’t like them to be on the porch,” she said, adding she wished to remain anonymous. “I tell them you see something going on, you get inside quick.”

Last week saw the release of of the video of another fatal police shooting, and another round of protests from groups aimed at stopping police violence.
But while the city’s attention was focused on the shooting that claimed the life of Paul O’Neal, at least 15 other people died from shootings and other violence in the city.
The latest week of violence brought the city’s homicide total to over 425, according to the unofficial count by the Chicago Sun-Times Wire.
Six of the killings occurred over the weekend, capped by the killing of a man at his own birthday party in the University Village neighborhood early Sunday.
The 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were at the party, attended by more than 100 people, when it was interrupted by gunfire about 2:20 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Hastings, according to police. Read more
Denzell Mickiel died shortly after being shot multiple times Monday evening in the Ashburn neighborhood.
The 24-year-old Mickiel was shot in the right arm, the left side of the neck, and in the head about 7:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of West 83rd Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Mickiel, of the 7000 block of South Honore, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Cesar Sanabria slit the throat of his wife, Lady Diana Sanabria, on Nov. 3, 2013, then boarded a plane to Mexico City and had not been seen or heard from in more than two years, according to the FBI.
But on Jan. 14, the 34-year-old former Chicago man, wanted for the murder and as an international fugitive, was taken into custody by Mexican authorities in Jalisco, the FBI announced Tuesday.
An international manhunt had been under way since March 28, 2014, when he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, according to the FBI.
