The teenager accused of shooting Clifton Frye over disparaging Facebook comments about slain rapper Young Pappy is now facing a murder charge after Frye died last week.
The rapper, whose real name was Shaquon Thomas, was shot early May 29 in Uptown. Four days later, 17-year-old Germel Dossie allegedly shot Frye over remarks he made about the rapper on Facebook, Cook County prosecutors said at Dossie’s initial bond hearing.
Frye, of the 1400 block of West Farwell, was pronounced dead on June 18 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office. He had been pronounced brain dead, but was still technically alive, four days earlier.
In court Tuesday, Judge James Brown ordered Dossie held without bond on an upgraded charge of first-degree murder. He was already being held on a $1 million bond for attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm charges.

Joseph Rivera, who was shot early Saturday in a drive-by attack in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood, died hours later at a hospital.
The 21-year-old had stopped his car at a light about 2:25 a.m. in the 2500 block of West 51st Street when an SUV pulled up and someone inside started yelling gang slogans and firing a gun, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Rivera, of the 5800 block of South Tripp, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

In Chicago, where a dozen people were killed over the Memorial Day weekend and politicians are still talking about how they can stop filmmaker Spike Lee from calling the city “Chiraq,” four communities stand out as oases apart from the violence.
In Mount Greenwood, Edison Park, Forest Glen and North Park, not one person has been killed over the past three and a half years, a Chicago Sun-Times / Homicide Watch Chicago analysis shows.
“One of the reasons we moved here is it’s a safe area for kids,” says Bobbie Sue Tuxford, 31, who lives in Mount Greenwood on the city’s Southwest Side.

At least nine people were killed in Chicago last week, all of them fatally shot.
Shootings since Friday night alone left three men dead and at least 18 other people wounded, according to Chicago Police.
The latest killing happened Sunday afternoon in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.
22-year-old Martell Smith was walking in the 9900 block of South State Street at 2:10 p.m. when a vehicle drove up, and someone inside fired shots, police said.
Smith, who lived on the same block, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.

A 20-year-old Chicago man charged with the fatal hit-and-run crash in West Englewood that killed 46-year-old Terrell Walker will appear for arraignment July 2.
Walker was crossing the street in the 6500 block of South Laflin when he was struck by a black car traveling southbound about 9:30 p.m. June 2, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Walker, of the 6400 block of South Bishop, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:37 p.m., authorities said.
The car sped away after the crash, but was found parked and unoccupied a short time later in the 6500 block of South Laflin, according to police.

Adrian Campos was stabbed to death early Monday in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, and police say a suspect is in custody.
Shortly after 3 a.m., the 26-year-old Campos was stabbed in the chest during an argument with another man in the 1900 block of North Rockwell, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Campos, who lived on the same block where he was stabbed, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
The other man has been taken into custody and charges are pending early Monday, police said.

Eric Turner was fatally shot Saturday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
The shooting happened at 7 p.m. in the 7300 block of South Dorchester, according to Chicago Police.

The 21-year-old Turner was standing outside near a home when someone walked out of a gangway and fired shots before running off, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Turner, who lived on the same block where he was shot, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 7:43 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Joaquin Rocha was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting early Saturday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
About 3:40 a.m., the 32-year-old Rocha was a passenger in a car in the 4500 block of South Hermitage when an SUV pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, striking him in the torso, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Rocha, of the 4700 block of South Springfield, showed up at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Devone Matthews was fatally shot at the carwash where he worked in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
About 4:45 p.m., a man entered the business in the 5900 block of North Ridge, pulled a handgun and fired several shots, police said.
The 21-year-old Matthews, of the 6100 block of North Damen, was shot in the back and taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Sources said he worked at the carwash where the shooting occurred.
Police described the shooter as a black man in his 20s, with dark complexion and hair in corn rows, wearing a white T-shirt, black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and white gym shoes.
Detectives are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
