17-year-old Ronnie Smith Jr. killed, man wounded in shooting near his home in Englewood

Ronnie Tyrone Smith Jr. was killed in a shooting near his home in the Englewood neighborhood late Tuesday that also left a man wounded.

The 17-year-old Smith Jr was standing in an alley with a 20-year-old man about 10:50 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Elizabeth. Another male walked up to them and fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Smith, who lived on the same block, suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and leg, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m., authorities said.

The man was shot in the right leg and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Deonta Turner and Lemont Davis were killed, and four other men were wounded, in a shooting Sunday afternoon in a part of the East Garfield Park neighborhood that frustrated residents call a “hotspot” for drug activity.

About 4:33 p.m., the men were standing in a group in the 3500 block of West Van Buren when a white, four-door car pulled up and multiple people got out and started shooting, according to Chicago Police. The vehicle may have been a Chevrolet Impala.

Two of the men, the 23-year-old Turner and 27-year-old Davis, were shot in the chest, and were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead just after 5 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Autopsies Monday found Turner, of the Uptown neighborhood, died of a gunshot wound to the back; and Davis, of west suburban Oak Park, died of multiple gunshot wounds. Their deaths were ruled homicides.

Man shot to death while sitting in vehicle in Austin identified as 23-year-old Pier Charvell Minor

A man shot to death late Saturday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side has been identified as 23-year-old Pier Charvell Minor.

About 11:40 p.m., Minor was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 5200 block of West Chicago. Two males then walked up and shot him in the head and chest before running away, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Minor, who lived in the same neighborhood, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 12:33 a.m. Sunday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Monday found he died of massive internal bleeding; and perforation of the aorta and bilateral lungs from multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide.

15-year-old Diego Villada dies in hospital two days after being confronted and shot in Hermosa

Fifteen-year-old Diego Villada died Monday morning, two days after he was shot on the block where he lived in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The boy was in an alley about 12:35 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of North Tripp when he was confronted by two males, one of whom fired multiple shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Villada suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

The suspects ran away after the shooting. Area North detectives are investigating.

Two people shot to death Thursday night in the South Shore neighborhood, the sixth and seventh to be killed in 12 hours within an eight-block radius in the neighborhood, have been identified as Cornell M. Patrick and Dominique Victoria Scott.

Just after 11 p.m., the 27-year-old Patrick and 23-year-old Scott were riding in a gray van southbound on South Shore Drive when a black Jeep pulled alongside near 70th Street, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A shooter in the Jeep opened fire, hitting Scott in the side of the head as she sat in the front passenger seat. Patrick was shot in the side of his body in the backseat. The van crashed into a pole at 71st Street.

Patrick, of the South Deering neighborhood; and Scott, of Gary, Indiana, were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Four people were killed in when gunfire erupted inside a restaurant in the South Shore neighborhood on Thursday afternoon.

About 3:30 p.m., a shooter walked into Nadia Fish and Chicken at the corner of 75th and Coles, and opened fire, according to family members of the victims.

Two men, Emmanuel C. Stokes, 28; and Edwin Davis, 32, were fatally shot inside the restaurant, authorities said.

Two other men, brothers Dillon Jackson, 20; and Raheam Jackson, 19, ran from the restaurant as gunfire erupted, but both were fatally shot in different parking lots within a block of the restaurant.

All four were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

On Thursday night, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted the shooting is “believed to be gang-related retaliation from another incident,” though he did not offer further specifics of the other incident.

Man found shot to death Friday evening in South Chicago identified as 21-year-old Timothy Shannon of Woodlawn

A man who was fatally shot Friday evening in the South Chicago neighborhood has been identified as 21-year-old Timothy Shannon.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot just before 5 p.m. found Shannon unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his back in the 8700 block of South Saginaw Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Shannon, who lived in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:12 p.m., authorities said. An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Area South detectives were investigating.

$1,000 reward offered for information on killing of Robert Cox, 62-year-old veteran found stabbed to death in Gresham

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information on the death of military veteran Robert L. Cox after the 62-year-old was found stabbed to death early Sunday in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Cox was found about 12:40 a.m., lying facedown in an alley in the 8500 block of South Peoria. He had suffered stab wounds to the head and neck, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Cox, a West Town neighborhood resident, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:04 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Sunday found he died of multiple sharp force injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and the $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killer. Anyone with information is asked to call (800) 883-5587.

After Terry Torrence called 911 to report a burglary in his West Pullman home, police found him shot to death

Terry D. Torrence called 911 to report a burglary in his West Pullman home early Saturday, but when police arrived, they found him shot to death in his doorway.

At 6:22 a.m., officers responded to the burglary report in the 11700 block of South Normal and found the 34-year-old Torrence dead, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Torrence had been shot in the head and buttocks, and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Area South detectives were investigating the events leading up to the shooting.

Courtney Lewis killed, second man wounded when shots are fired into their vehicle in Auburn Gresham

Courtney Lewis was killed and another man critically wounded in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The 20-year-old Lewis was with three other people about 12:30 p.m. inside a car in the 8200 block of South Ada when shots rang out and the vehicle sped away from the scene, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Two passengers in the car realized they’d been shot and the driver stopped in the 8400 block of South Aberdeen, police said.

Lewis was shot twice in the back, and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the same neighborhood as the shooting.

A 19-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was also taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
