78-year-old Robert Bishop dies of injuries suffered in 2007 assault near his Washington Park home

The death of 78-year-old Robert Bishop last week has been attributed to injuries he suffered when he was assaulted in 2007 in the Washington Park neighborhood.

Bishop died Monday, Oct. 24, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Saturday found he died of complications of a traumatic brain injury suffered in the assault. His death was ruled a homicide.

Bishop was assaulted with “broom handles and sharp objects” on May 8, 2007, in the 5100 block of South Calumet, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived on the same block as the incident.

The medical examiner’s office said someone was in custody in connection with the assault, but could not immediately provide additional information early Monday. Chicago Police could not provide any additional information.

Lindsey Anderson found lying on sidewalk in Chatham with fatal gunshot wounds

Lindsey Anderson was found shot to death early Sunday in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responding about 1 a.m. to a call of shots fired in the 7900 block of South Vernon found the 38-year-old Anderson lying on the sidewalk, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Anderson had been shot in the head and chest, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His home address was not known.

Twin 17-year-old brothers Edwin Bryant and Edward Bryant were killed in a drive-by shooting early Sunday in Old Town.

The teens were standing outside about 3:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Hudson when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

Edwin Bryant was shot in the chest and back, and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.

Edward Bryant suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and head, and was also taken to Northwestern, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

The fraternal twins were juniors at Marshall High School in the East Garfield Park neighborhood after transferring from Lincoln Park High School as freshmen, according to Edward’s youth basketball coach.

17-year-old Raequonn Ricks Williams shot to death, older man wounded while driving vehicle on Near West Side

Seventeen-year-old Raequonn Ricks Williams was fatally shot and a 40-year-old man was wounded while driving in the Near West Side neighborhood early Sunday.

Williams and the older man were in a car at 2:59 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Jackson when someone walking on the street fired shots in their direction, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver tried to speed away, but the vehicle struck a parked vehicle before coming to rest, police said.

Ricks suffered several gunshot wounds to the back, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:38 a.m., authorities said.

The older man was shot in the shoulder, and was also taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Walter McCurry dies about eight hours after being shot multiple times on a street in Englewood

Walter McCurry was shot Saturday evening in the Englewood neighborhood and died about eight hours later in a hospital.

At 7:23 p.m., the 36-year-old McCurry was standing in the street in the 1100 block of West 57th Street, when someone in a dark-colored car fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

McCurry was struck in the chest, arm and hip; and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:47 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 6300 block of South Morgan.

19-year-old Aaron Bennett dies one day after being shot during argument while driving in Kelvin Park

A man who died Saturday evening, one day after he was shot while driving in the Kelvin Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, has been identified as 19-year-old Aaron Bennett.

At 11:47 a.m. Friday, Bennett was arguing with someone else in traffic while driving in the 2700 block of North Central, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The other person pulled a gun and opened fire before driving away, police said.

Bennett was shot in the head, and was originally taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, authorities said.

He was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m. Saturday.

8th-grade honor student Demarco Webster Jr. gunned down in South Austin two weeks after 14th birthday

Fourteen-year-old Demarco Webster Jr. was killed by a stray bullet early Saturday while helping his father move in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Demarco, an eighth-grade honor student at Jensen Scholastic Academy, was helping his father put items in his car about 1:23 a.m. in the 500 block of South Central, authorities said.

A dark-colored car then drove past and someone inside shot him in the torso, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Demarco was not believed to have been the intended target.

Demarco, who turned 14 just two weeks ago on Oct. 17, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 3:15 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 700 block of South Kedzie.

16-year-old Deandre Banks found with fatal gunshot wound to the back in West Garfield Park

A teenage boy fatally shot Saturday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood has been identified as Deandre Banks.

The 16-year-old was found outside in the 200 block of South Kostner with gunshot wounds to his back and leg at 4:50 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Deandre was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:14 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 5400 block of West Ohio.

Clara Gonzalez of Lansing dies 30 minutes after being found with a gunshot wound in South Deering

Clara Gonzalez of south suburban Lansing was shot to death early Sunday in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Witnesses told police that they found Gonzalez in the 10700 block of South Hoxie about 2:34 a.m., and she told them she had been shot, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gonzalez had suffered a gunshot wound to the body, and someone took her to Trinity Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m., authorities said. She lived in the 2900 block of 193rd Place in Lansing.

Robert McClinton fatally shot while sitting in vehicle not far from his home in Grasham

Robert McClinton shot to death in a parked vehicle Saturday night less than half a mile from his home in the South Side Gresham neighborhood.

McClinton, 28, was sitting in a parked vehicle in an alley in the 8300 block of South Hermitage at 7:32 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Someone walked up to the vehicle and shot him in the head

McClinton, of the 8100 block of South Loomis, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
