Antwan Elliott was ordered held without bond Tuesday after prosecutors claimed he fatally shot 16-year-old Giovanni Matos last week in the Portage Park neighborhood.
Matos was walking with two friends in the 5800 block of West Patterson Avenue when a vehicle pulled up about 1 p.m. March 15 and Elliot got out and asked the three about their gang affiliation, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors claimed Matos and his two acquaintances were gang members, and when they told Elliott their gang affiliations he opened fire on them.
Elliott continued shooting at the group even as they attempted to ran away, prosecutors said. Read more
A U.S. Postal Service employee was found shot to death inside a vehicle in the East Garfield Park neighborhood Tuesday morning.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 2800 block of West Warren Boulevard found the 27-year-old dead man inside a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds about 6:35 a.m., police said. Read more
Dushanti Hassell was killed Sunday night in the Ravenswood neighborhood after a shooting that one alderman called gang related.
Hassell, 21, was with a group in an alley in the 2200 block of West Winnemac Avenue when gunfire erupted about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Hassell, of the 5700 block of North Kenmore Avenue, was shot in the head and died about three hours later at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Read more

Margaret Noble was injured during fire that started about 3 a.m. March 8 at her coach house in the 300 block of South Albany Avenue, authorities said.
