Antoine Coney was fatally shot on an Austin porch Thursday evening.

Coney, 21, was on the porch in the 5200 block of West Quincy Street when a gray vehicle pulled up and a gunman exited and opened fire about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Antwan Elliott was ordered held without bond Tuesday after prosecutors claimed he fatally shot 16-year-old Giovanni Matos last week in the Portage Park neighborhood.

Matos was walking with two friends in the 5800 block of West Patterson Avenue when a vehicle pulled up about 1 p.m. March 15 and Elliot got out and asked the three about their gang affiliation, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors claimed Matos and his two acquaintances were gang members, and when they told Elliott their gang affiliations he opened fire on them.

Elliott continued shooting at the group even as they attempted to ran away, prosecutors said.

Postal Service employee Anthony Hayes found shot to death in East Garfield Park

A U.S. Postal Service employee was found shot to death inside a vehicle in the East Garfield Park neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 2800 block of West Warren Boulevard found the 27-year-old dead man inside a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds about 6:35 a.m., police said.

Dushanti Hassell was killed Sunday night in the Ravenswood neighborhood after a shooting that one alderman called gang related.

Hassell, 21, was with a group in an alley in the 2200 block of West Winnemac Avenue when gunfire erupted about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Hassell, of the 5700 block of North Kenmore Avenue, was shot in the head and died about three hours later at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

WBEZ report: Chicago has more unsolved murders, fewer detectives

A WBEZ investigation released on Monday examined the declining number of murder cases closed by Chicago Police over the past 25 years.

Since 1990, the number of murder cases closed in the same year the killing happened fell from nearly 70 percent to below 30 percent. With the mayoral election just two weeks away, there has been a renewed interest on the yearly murders totals — and subsequent arrests — since Mayor Rahm Emanuel took office in 2011.

Antwan Elliott was charged with murder Monday in the shooting death of 16-year-old Giovanni Matos this month in the Portage Park neighborhood, police said.

Matos was walking with two friends in the 5800 block of West Patterson Avenue when a gray car pulled up and an argument ensued about 12:50 p.m. March 15, authorities said.

Gang slogans were exchanged during the argument, then Elliott exited the car and opened fire, police said.

Autopsy: Fire death of Margaret Noble, 79, ruled a homicide

The death of a 79-year-old woman who died after a “suspicious” fire earlier this month in the East Garfield Park neighborhood has been ruled a homicide.

Margaret Noble was injured during fire that started about 3 a.m. March 8 at her coach house in the 300 block of South Albany Avenue, authorities said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze about 40 minutes after arriving, authorities said.

Four of the slaying happened over the weekend, when at least 18 other people were wounded by gunfire.

The most recent killing happened when 21-year-old Dushanti Hassell was shot in the head in the 2200 block of West Winnemac Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
